Jerry - what is the formula you used or do you have an Excel sheet?

Duane, the formula for the stock rear tire size on our bikes is (RPM ÷ Final Drive Ratio) x .07649 = MPH.  On our 5 speeds the FDR numbers would be 3.15 in 5th, 3.862 in 4th, 4.953 in 3rd, 6.958 in 2nd, and 10.110 in 1st.  The .07649 is a constant derived from the tire circumference, which in this case is 80.77 inches (diameter 25.71 inches).

Bear with me Jerry, math is not my best subject  :confused5:

I don't really need this - just my own curiosity.

Using your formula I can come up with a chart for the rpm = speed chart

How do we arrive at the FDR? Did you get this from a chart or calculate it?

And then, how do you calculate the formula for:
change the primary sprockets
change the trans
change both

Does the six speed have the same ratios 1-5?

The spreadsheet I attached I got the MPH = RPM's by trial and error, don't know if I did this right.

The spreadsheet is locked except for the input cells - but there is no password.

ACTUALLY the answers are;

3000rpm = 72.84761905 mph

73mph = 3006.27533 rpm

see the difference..it is probably with how you have your decimal point set for the answer

ACTUALLY ............................

if you go and un-protect the sheet and format the cells to read whatever nth degree you want it will still not make up for the inherent inaccuracy of the speedometer and the constant tire size thingy

What I listed as FDR probably should be called overall drive ratio, but basically it is the primary ratio times the trans ratio times the rear drive ratio.

(Clutch gear ÷ engine gear) x (Trans ratio) x (rear wheel sprocket ÷ trans output sprocket) = FDR

The stock setup on our bikes in top gear would look like this:
(36 ÷ 25) x 1.00 x (70 ÷ 32) = FDR
1.44 x 1.00 x 2.19 = FDR = 3.15

Gears 1 through 5 in the SE 6-speed (not the Cruise Drive) are the same as in the stock 5 speed, and 6th is 0.89:1.  If you put the 6th gear ratio in the formula you get:
1.44 x .89 x 2.19 = FDR = 2.80

I just rid'em..I didn't know I had to be smart too?lol  :P I just hope that the wrench that works on my bike to do an upgrade is as smart as you guys.

So, I need to buy a baker six speed, different cam and primary sprockets, royal purple atv oil, 19-21 front tire, true duals, traxxis suspension, new air ride system. Hummm?

Sell the house to pay for it all..lol

What happened to the lifting the radiator cap and sliding a new car under it days? lol

You guys ROCK!!!! :2vrolijk_21:
