Cold weather is on the way! I open my vents which is good when moving, no help when stopped.

Totally agree.  You sure feel the heat behind the lowers, but boy it feels good when it's cold.  I've been out in 45 degree air in jeans on the highway and was fine.  I highly recommend lowers if you want to do cold weather riding.  They greatly extend the riding season.

Others told me but I learned it first hand and obviously this year.  Brought ol' Red home sometime early spring.  The lowers were great.  But by June it was too warm to ride inside the basin they created.  Put them back on just before MV for that trip.  They were nice up there.  But the low 80 degree weather on the trip home was ok only because it was all on the hightway.  That's too warm for local riding with the lowers on.

Before next spring am going to scope out some soft lowers to carry with the bike.  A quick on and off intermediate solution for those times of the years the weather can go both ways quickly or from day to day.

This is what I did on my 00 SERG and my 04SEEG. I still have to take the lowers off the SERG in the summer though.

HDC, I put lowers on as well, is it just my set, the tolerances on the caps was terrible I had to use a fine dremel and bevel the edges to even get the flimsey mounting screws in place. even now the fit is less then acceptable but it took so long to get them that ill live with it.

Lowers are a pain in the a$$ to remove and install for summer and winter use.  :smilie_daumenneg:  I leave mine on year round, but I did install Hoppes vents in them. Much better! :2vrolijk_21:

The fabric (Gore-Tex I believe)  lowers work almost as good as the ABS type and can be installed or removed in a matter of minutes.

Just my $0.02

I have a special place up it the top of a closet for my lowers.  I put them up there with I get a new bike and get them back down when I sell the bike..... then put the lowers off the new bike up in the spot in the top of the closet.

Way too hot for me with the lowers on.  Good when is is really cold (below 40 degrees).  Too much hassle to take them off and then put back on when it turns really cold.

I have a set of the snap on vinyl HD lowers.  I can put them on in a couple of minutes and then when it warms up, I can take them off and put them away in the tourpak in about half the time it takes to put them on.  :2vrolijk_21:

I bought the quick disconnect kit for the lowers (recommended to me by my dealer) and it only takes a few minutes to put on or take off the lowers.

Looked at those when they were first released.  It only takes five minutes to take them of or put them on with the stock hardware though.  Seemed a lot of coin for so little appreciable gain that also makes them easier to steal.

I take security seriously, but some things just aren't worth taking the time to worry about. For me, the convenience of installing or removing the lowers quickly and easily is worth the cost of the hardware to make it easy for me - especially when I buy the hardware components at a discount. I figure that a thief is looking for something easier to steal such as a helmet or saddlebags and I have taken measures to secure the saddlebags by replacing the stock hardware with a more secure bolt on solution. I also use detachables locks for tourpaks and sissy bars and I either lock my helmet on the bike or take it with me.

Sounds like a great idea B B, do you have a link to them?

Also, does anyone know if the "Bar & Shield Logo Soft Lowers" fit the 09 SERG?

Hope I spelled all that right...  :nervous:
