Apes
« on: August 04, 2005, 11:59:45 AM »

Anyone have apes on their Electra? If so please post or if you have any photos of bikes with them. I am going to be getting some 13inch flanders apes this winter. Thanks.

Would that not kinda defeat the design of the batwing fairing that protects the handlebars?  Interested in your thoughts on how to run 'apes' on this bike and keep it from looking (____?_____).  I love 'apes' on choppers and some sport bikes, but on a touring bike w/ a fairing, it may exceed the limits of my understanding.  Har!  [smiley=nervous.gif]  spyder

Spyder, just cause it would look like a cluster frack to some of us doesn't mean it would look  the same to....... Ah, never mind.  It'd just be funny looking  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Would you be so kind as to define "funny looking"?  I seem to be struggling with a little confusion here and different language keeps coming to mind.....

Ok Breeze.  Let's see what we can do for a standards based definition here.  If, for example, a standard bike setting on it's own by itself were a ZERO on the funny looking scale and a red striped Fatboy being sat on by a man with a ghillie hat were a SEVEN on the funny looking scale and a TEN on the funny looking scale were a Goldwing on a leash being pulled by the Space Shuttle while in earth orbit and with North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Il riding on the bike than a Glide with big ape hangars would be a SEVEN.

Well hell Breeze, on this little notebook's screen I can only guess about the bikes in the little avatar pics.  Very sorry for the mis-harley-dentification.  [smiley=7.gif]

There are a couple of places that make an ape for the eglide Flanders and CycleSmiths.
here is a pic of the cyclesmiths 13 inch ape:
http://home.earthlink.net/~boydr/113w.jpg

It is hard to tell what it looks like from the front though..
I attached  a pic for the flanders.

Anyhow if anyone has any pics on a eglide would be appreciated.

The only apes I have seen on a bagger was the Road Glide that senior Teutel was riding on an episode of American Chopper. They didn't look good to me but my perception might have been tainted by who was on the bike.  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Posting your picture up for you here Howler.  Got to say that doesn't look at all comfortable.  Without even considering questions of appearance and what any given guy's tastes might be; there's no way I'm hanging on to that thing six or eight hundred miles on any given day.
