John,

Curious what your opinion is on the 10.5 to 1 Mahle Pistons for the 110.

I don't see how an upside down piston ring would cause oil to collect in the combustion chamber while the bike is not running, resulting in a big puff of smoke on startup that quickly goes away and heavy deposits at the intake valve.  I doubt you will ever get a factual story from that dealership, and as long as you get the bike back this time in proper running order I guess their little story to save face is just water under the bridge.  I hope everything goes right for you this time.

Btw, a real engine builder would know which way to install the rings even if they weren't marked.  If the gentleman putting your engine back together didn't find the directional marks and he doesn't know how to tell the difference, he should have stopped at that point and found out for sure.

Harry,
Mahle pistons are one of the finest pistons money can buy,IMO.
That being said,I've used the pop-up(+11 cc) 110" Mahle pistons in a number of builds.Head work, throttle body, and the cams to go with the build, always work out well for me.

Having ridden the bike since it`s rebuild but only for about 150 miles all seems fine our riding days will now be reduced due to winter approaching alredy some salt on our roads due to unusually snow/frost etc, i always was off the bike on returning from a ride in these conditions we all know chrome & salt dont mix well ... plus a squirt of s100,wd40 or whatever your choice of corrosion medicine is.
Thanks guys for your input i`ll keep you posted if anything goes astray.. :mango:
