weamdog, If you have a good running engine and no other engine issues I would suggest you get some powercoat or paint to match , if possible, and repair the effected area. There are people who work for automotive dealers who fix things like this on a regular basis and if you can find a painter who will show you some of his work as proof you might save yourself a big hassle. Even if the dealer only has engine touch up  paint it can be  thinned and applied with an airbrush. Beats taking eveything apart. CAHDBIKER

Sorry to hear.  That's EXACTLY where mine started out.  See attached.

That looks just like mine. Same pic as if I had taken it.

In this pic you can see how the case paint is peeling but the outer covers (same metal, same paint) are not affected.  This was a key point in my argument with MOCO to eliminate the "environmental" defense.  If the peeling was due to a corrosive environment, it would be affecting more than just two pieces of metal on the bike.

Last one for now but I have several more for anyone that's interested.

JMS, I also like a lot of chrome. Some Hot Toppers would look great on those allenhead bolts. They sell kits for different bikes. I have used them since 1995 on my Heritage and I put a set on my 09SEUC. They don't cost much, they are resuable and they don't rust.I don't have anything to do with the company, I just like their product.CAHDBIKER

I have the chrome inner on my Springer and I think it looks great...
I also put the cylinder base cover on it and it fits together well..,..

No I don't think that you can have too much chrome on CVOs...

Looks to me like the preparation of the outer primary was sat and the inner primary prep was unsat.  Coulda been a bunch of inners that were painted either cold, hot, oily, or with humidity on 'em.  Same for heads that have been discussed.  Or could have been a bad batch of paint.  Probably isn't bad paint since I'm sure they store and dispense it from large barrels, and many more would be affected.  Someone didn't follow prep or temp acclimation procedure somewhere and a percentage were shipped that way.

Poll shows most don't have the problem so far.  Need more votes to be sure.  So far hardly anyone from '10 up has the defect.

If it has happened to any of your guys with the new 12's let us know.

I am in the Shenandoah Mountains.  Closest ocean is about 4 hours to the east.

I had my primary case start peeling to and when I took it to the dealer to complain and try to get a new case out of it they said they will call Moco and was told to paint it . I was there when they called and they took the bike in a right away and masked it all up and sprayed it . I waited 2hrs and back on the road again .. they did a good job and that was a month ago and so far so good looks like new.. I will post if it starts to peel again.

Curious if they buffed off all the remaining paint or not, but I doubt it.  If they didn't the rest should start to peel too.  Hopefully it won't though.

My 09 FLTRSE3 had two very small spots on the cases and a few of the cylinder fins started to chip.  Dealer touched up the cases with poor results and said they would ask them if they could order new cases and cylinders.  Two months later I get a call they need to schedule an appointment to install a complete brand new motor with chrome they had manufactured for me with my matching numbers on it.  It's kind of funny I just had a chit ton of warranty work done in addition to the motor they installed a new front tire rotors and wheel, outer fairing, inner fairing, gas tank with emblems, chrome tank dashboard with center emblem, twist throttle sensor, left chrome control cover, seat, front shift lever, chrome starter paid just the difference from the black one, oil psi gauge, rear brake update and I'm sure theres a few things I'm forgetting but its like i have a brand new 2012 FLTRSE3 with 12,000 on the odometer!

No extended warrentie, just kept an open warranty claim at the dealership for the repairs and got as much time on the old parts as I could.  Was very persistent in pointing out all of the factories mistakes with finish and quality control and was very thorough with the bitch list.  The Dealer had to pull for me on some of the stuff but most of it was boarder line acceptable except I severe OCD with my CVO and in the end they broke down and knew I wasn't going away until we reach an agreement which we did.  That was the third warranty punch list I have had completed.  I've found with my dealer just keep a level head and calmly explain what I want done and when they call back after talking with their factory reps and tell me their is nothing they can do.  I would ask them questions like "do you see the paint flaws?" and then they would start to explain small paint flaws have to in certain areas of the bike to warrant replacement I would stop them and calmly just say "but you can see the paint flaws right!" and their would be dead air for a min. and they would just say well ah lets see what else we can do and so on it went for all the other stuff and finally I got everything fixed after three years and know I have finally got all the bug worked out lets hope.
