Paint on 2009 FLHTCUSE4
« on: October 28, 2008, 01:00:45 PM »

Picked up my new 2009 FLHTCUSE4 (Blue/Silver) and noticed a very small dent in the tour pack probably put there before the paint was applied and a small black mark under the clear coat on the front fender. The items are very hard to see with a quick glance at the bike but under closer examination you will notice them. Anybody else have paint problems and what will I expect from my dealer when I point them out. Will they tell me to just live with it or will they try and fix? Thanks for any input.

If there is a flaw/dent in the tour pak it has to be fixed. Don't let them give you the song & dance. I would go for new vs repaint. We pay good money for these bikes. They had better be perfect in at least appearance. THE MUFFMAN

There have been others that complained if orange peel on the front fender, how is yours?

I pick up mine in about 3 weeks, I'll make sure to look it over very closely.

I noticed every bike in the showroom had crummy front fender paint...
They said, "oh they pwdercoat them"
I said, get a new powdercoater.

I hope it is just the clear, I'll try buffing later when it really bothers me.

I noticed a blemish on the bezzel that houses the tour pak brake lights and a chip under the lip of the tour pak lid. The dealer has ordered both pieces to be replaced and I've been waiting for a couple of months. According to my dealer, the parts haven't been assigned part numbers yet and/or paint codes and as soon as they do, they'll replace both pieces. Other than that, the paint it perfect.

if the dealer gives you a run around then get there service rep involved,I had to go that route because the service  manager won't do a dam thing(only bad thing about my dealership is the service manager)they are now making it correct :)

This nightmare sounds so familiar.  Squeaky wheel gets the grease.  Fight the good fight, and don't quit until they make it right.   :2vrolijk_21:

Got the call from my dealer that my new tour pak is in. Taking her in this morning to have it installed along with the LED light bar for the luggage rack. I'm hoping they will also be able to find the cause of the motor and electrical components being heard through the speakers. If all goes well, it'll just be a loose ground and I'll be back on the road by tonight.

Getting the codes are harder than hitting the lottery :(... find you a good painter that can match them up and have them paint it for you.

You will have no luck getting Harley to give you paint codes.Better luck getting a tour of Ft. Knox!  If you have a body shop or paint store like PPG they have a machine that basically analyzes the color and gives them the proper mix to match it. My body shop matched both colors on my bike perfectly. The orange was a Harley color and the gray was a Range Rover color. It will also give you the lighter and darker combos so if your painter doesn't match it he will know where to go from there. Being the trailer is not going to be immediately next to another painted part of the bike like a fender and saddle bag it should be an easy match.

My painter is working on it,,, the coding from the dealer is worthless.  He gave me ACZ (or something like that)...  It looks like a scan is coming in my future~~~~

I guess it's all about the money for HD!!!!!  But I just want to paint a little trailer.   :trailer:  How is that an infringement? :zstupid:

I tried and thought you guys might have a secret code lurking somewhere....

 :rolleyes2:  Thanks for the reply.....

Contact SBB on this forum and find out who painted his.  When he had the 09 (same colors as yours), he had a trailer painted to match it.  I don't know where you are located, but he's in N Carolina.  If you are close enough, maybe they could do yours, or maybe they could help your shop with the color codes.
