2006 FLHTCUSE Exhaust Download
« on: November 10, 2008, 08:34:04 PM »

Hello, Can someone help me out? I recently purchased a stock 2006 FLHTCUSE and just added some V&H Oval slipons
and SE High flow A/C.  Bike runs like chit. (very rich with poor gas milage)Does Harley still have a Exhaust cartridge for this beast, or will I have to go with a Race Tuner? I don't plan on doing anymore mechanical upgrades to the bike.

I'm trying to avoid using a PCIII that I ran on my 2005 FLHTCSE. I was not very impressed with the power commander after a 300.00 dollar dyno.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve, a stock 06 runs lean from the factory, the items you added to increase air flow will make it run even leaner. If your running rich, I would guess that the previous owner made some modifications that he did not share with you.

Thanks, I picked up the bike with only 2000 miles on it, and to look at it, absolutely a blank canvas.
I guess I'll try to go with the SERT. I didn't have much luck with a PCIII on my 05 in my area. The local dealer seems to be very comfortable with the SERT. I guess I'll just have to part with some more $$$$$.

There were downloads and cartridges available on the '06 models.  The proper one to use in your situation would be the "Stage 1 Race" version. The one for an '06 with 25° injectors is cartridge p/n 34304-06.  However, you will be better served by saving the $150 for this download and just apply it to the SERT/PCIII/ or whatever your local tuner recommends.

Can't you just take it to a stealership, have them hook up the DT and give you a printout of what is loaded in the ECM?  I did.  103 Race download. 34303-06.  It'll even tell you (Yes/No) if a Race Tuner was used before........if the printout says "yes" in the Race Tuner line, you probably ought to hunt the owner down and retrieve the dongle........or spend the $ on a new one.

I don't know the product number but in 2007 I had my 2006 modified with an Arlen Ness Stage 1 air cleaner/filter setup, stock head pipes and a set of S&S SPO slip on mufflers. At that time i had a download done by my dealer and he called it a "race download" but it was not SERT or a PC. Since that time it has run great and really opened up my 103" vs. stock.

If the dealer called your download a "race download," then it likely came from a "one-time-squirt" cartridge.  The DT also has downloads, which aren't labeled as "race" for street legal applications.

A simple DT hook-up and printout of the digits in your ECM will tell you exactly what is in your ECM based on the sheet Jerry just posted.

Thanks guys, I definitely have some good direction to go with. I have a PCIII that I can install on the bike, however I have yet to find a good tunner in the Toronto area, I tried one last spring and ended up unplugging the unit, because I was running rich and having trouble starting the bike. I think I will try to get the bike to the dealer and have them plug the bike in to find out what's in the ECM.

It sounds like you ECM isn't stock, or has a problem. If you added those parts, and you think it's running rich there's something screwy, like stated above it should cause a leaner condition. So adding the PCIII on top of that would really be a mess. Find a good tuner and have it checked first, if they can pull the download from your ECM, or if the dealer can get reflashed the ECM. Good luck.
