What I think I'm going to try to do is set a jig up on my drill press and put several holes around the outside of the plastic stock back plate.  If they're done very precisely they would look OK I think.

Silver Black - are you saying that we don't need to worry about the SE cover fitting on there once it's changed?  Is the filter that you are using a high flow filter?

There are already holes across the bottom.  I don't know, but it seems that would be enough to get air in there.  Silver-Black just posted that he put his back together without needing a different cover.

If I just get the SE backplate, do I need the other items that come with the kit.  Besides the air cleaner I see 2 rubber breathers and a few metal things.  Can the existing parts (minus the cover) fit with the new SE backplate?

Nevermind....just took it apart and its a little different.  Unless I drill some more holes, I will need the kit.

K&N filter
My cover fit.
Try it.
I wasn't smart enough to know it wouldn't work.
Rode it a few miles this morning, nothing fell off, had my cybil box on the tour pak rack just in case!

Okay, now I see where my thought process is entirely incorrect.  The 2 screws that are visible on the air cleaner only hold on the SE nameplate.  That area of the air cleaner cover is concave under the nameplate, so maybe that's why you need a different cover.  But that would only make sense if you actually replace the air cleaner element also, and use a thicker one.  Since Silver-Black was able to put his cover back on, I am not worrying about this aspect anymore.

I have a flhtcuse4 didn't like the closed up air filter eathier so I changed to the filter from a Roadglide cvo . You can order it from your loco dealer ,cost about 240.00 . It was easy to change But one little trick ,directions say you have to remove the gas tank because of the screws inback of the efi you can reach them with a allen wrench i think 1/4 size
