2009 Screaming eagle MOTOR problems
« on: November 12, 2008, 12:01:48 PM »

Just purchased a 2009 Ultra classic screaming eagle and it blew oil out all down the side of the bike on the way home, I checked
the oil level and it was not over filled, It was pouring down raining and just got dark. I called the dealership and they told me to ride it back in the next
morning...they tell me now it was a gasket left off of the oil cooler at the breather...My concern is did it do motor damage getting to much oil sucking it
thru the motor or not getting enough oil and burning up the top end....it currently has 230 miles on it....

the Motor Co will probably offer to was it for you. I would say that it needs to go into the bike's service record in case other problems develope. :cherry:

Yeah, a wash is probably all you'll get out of it.  And make sure you get something in writing documenting what happened.

I doubt any engine damage was done if the oil level was in the good range. It is something that should be properly annotated by the service department, a thorough detail should be done, and perhaps a free first service for the inconvenience...IMHO...I hope this is the last of your issues, and that you have many happy worry-free miles ahead!

The General Manager just contacted me back offered to give me a lifetime warranty on all lubricating parts to be good nationwide for as long as I own the bike, or he would give me back all of my money and my trade in and just undo the deal...

No need to loose faith in the bike. Did you see the oil pressure light come on? If not, I'd like to think you should be safe. I guess the gave the bike a good detail, so that it looks new, right?

Ride safely,

Go with the lifetime warranty......you can't beat that

But a wash and detail on their dime is in order...

You'd best ask that GM how he can obligate every dealership's shop nationwide to a non-factory warranty extended by only his shop.  Because Harley has no such thing.  If you're that dissatisfied take your money and old bike back and walk away.  You had an oil leak and a mess.  It happens.  It got fixed and cleaned up.  Someone else will like the bike if you can't get past it.  Do you really want to put yourself in the position of everyday throwing a leg over the saddle of a bike you choose not to trust?

If i were in your position, i would take their offer and get all your money and trade back and start over. You will no doubt do minor upgrades that could jeopardize any warranty and a good chance you wont have anything to lean against. You are very lucky your dealer made this offer and i can tell you it is not common that a dealer would do this. Heck, you don't have anything to loose with this offer.. go for it.

Run, don't walk, to get your money back and never go near another 110.  If I were given that offer today I'd ask when do you open?  No way can he obligate other dealers to fix your problem, and no way would you get them to agree that something was lubricated part related.

Why?  Can't tell from your personal info if you have a '09 110 or not.  If you do, maybe you could share the reasons for your position.  Inquiring minds need to know.....

Their dealer prep of the new bike surely should have caught this.  That's the problem.  Dealers charge for this stuff & don't provide the service they're charging for.  The new bike add-ons are strictly a profit center.
