Anybody buying/selling HOG stock and why?
« on: November 13, 2008, 12:59:52 PM »

With the price of HOG stock in the $17 range now, any thoughts of buying or selling HOG stock?

Seems as if I always buy high and sell low, I did buy at $19 in Oct thinking that the bottom was in, but wrong as usuall

I sold mine about a year ago.  But I'm considering buying again, now.  Still on the fence about it.

Just read an article on the Ruters site that said we're headed for a great recession and quite possibly a depression. :nixweiss:

Learn to leverage your cash with options conracts.

I bought today 20 MAY 2009 $20 CALL options for $2.45.  20 Calls x 100 shares each x $2.45 = total outlay of $3400 premium

If HOG stock goes up > 22.45/share by the third Friday in May, then I make money. If it is below that price, I lose my premium.

If you bought 2000 shares at $17 it would cost you $34,000 and all your money would be at risk.  If you bought the option you would still control the same 2000 shares, but all you would risk would be the premium, or $4900.  I'd much rather risk $5k than $34k.

You're a brave boy. Think I would prefer the short options at the moment.

My old bro Animal down in Daytona bought 1 share back in 1985. He paid $33 of which $25 was the broker's commission. He has never bought nor sold any since but he has 32 shares due to splits over the past 23 years. Just a short time ago with H-D Inc in the $50 range, he commented on how he wished he'd bought 1,000 shares back in 85. Even at whatever H-D Inc is trading for today, he'd be up big time. Which is why everyone preaches a long term strategy for investing.

I have to wounder if there stock will go up much as things get better . They are having so many problems with quality , sales are down on bikes there financial division is down the only up in the entire compony is in sales of HD branded things like doggy poop bags. They are buying there stocks back which will cause an increase in per share price I believe but thats not real growth . Like I have said before I can't pick stocks very well but buying more HD stock isn't at the top of my list. :nixweiss:

In a depressed market buying shares in Companies that are cash rich is always a good policy. They are the ones who are likely to weather the storm best and then be in a position to grow strongly in a Bull market.

IMHO of course.

Exactly the case with HD, Nige.  I think too many folks have tunnel vision on a company like HD.  If you base the company prospectus upon the endless negative data on this and many other related sites, you wouldn't buy stock if it was a nickel a share.  That negativity, however is miniscule in effect to the general brand acceptance worldwide.  Many, I guess are unaware of the foreign and emerging markets in which HD has significant market share and/or positioning to rapidly grow a client base unrelated to the current US market.

IMO, an exceptional management team in otherwise troubled times.
