This is a PIA, But Couldn't Think of a Better Way To Do It!
« on: November 13, 2008, 01:53:09 PM »

I'm having to change mobile numbers again next week, and won't be able to keep my current number or forward the new number, since it's my company's phone. I speak with many of you by phone. Couldn't figure out a way to notify everyone with my new number, w/o calling the hundreds in my contacts list. So if ya read this and the number has already changed, drop a line here or by PM and I'll get back to ya w/the new number. And if I talk to ya before then, NEVERMIND!!! ;D ;D ;D :2vrolijk_21:

And I'm changing service providers too. Won't still have this phone anymore by the time I get the new one. That means entering these hundreds of numbers again! That sucks! :nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

Any better way to do this? :confused5:

Thanks gang! :2vrolijk_21:

Hook the phone to the computer (mini USB or Bluetooth) and download the address book.  Upload to the new phone.  If the data is on the SIM card you also might steal liberate the SIM card from the phone before giving it back to the phone's owner.

If you can't do as Don suggests try going to the new carrier before you give up the old phone and see if they can download/save your address book to upload when you get the new phone.

That might work, but I think I'm giving it back tomorrow and won't have the new one yet. I've no cables for this phone to do anything but charge it. Damn, should'a seen this coming. Maybe a Verizon store can set me up before I turn it in tomorrow. Thanks! :2vrolijk_21:

Don't ya need some kinda software to do that, besides the cable? :confused5: :nixweiss:

usually, a VZ store may be able to export it to a thumb drive or something like that for you

Good idea! I'll bring one with me then. You need software for this stuff? I guess maybe I can just bring the memory stick to the new provider and have them download it into the new phone? :confused5:

Most of the time it's seamless and can be done w/o any problems majority of the time. Sometimes there are compatability problems if you change make of phone then you may have some editing to do when they transfer the address book.

Well, got my memory stick and phone and heading out to the Verizon store in a few. I'll let ya know. New service might still be Verizon, but might be AT&T. If it's AT&T, might be looking at an I-Phone. Anyone got one? Are they worthwhile or just hype?

and sometimes the people behind the counter are clueless

wife took a new phone and her old phone to an AT&T store so the could activate and copy her address book over

they sent her home with the old sim card in the new phone and the new sim card in the old phone

neither phone would work.

thankfully the did copy the data from the old phone to the new sim card so when i put it back in the new phone she was good to go

I called them first. They said they'd try to download it for me, but their preferred way is to go thru their system, which means the company administrator of the account needs to log in. Uh-oh! That's NFG!!! So I'll try to let them download it for me and hope for the best! ;)

I love my iPhone. It is easy and fun to use. And there are many smart ways to keep your contacts synchronized with your PC. And it is great for eMail. Very easy to use.

Good luck with the contacts transfer. One easy way would be to use Microsoft Outlook, but since you have to cable for the old phone, you might not be able to have that set up.

Ride safely,
Louis

Usually yes (though surprisingly not always).  Software to do it on several free downloads though.  If your and Binx's phone are Bluetooth capable you could possibly send the entire address book to hers via Bluetooth then send it back to the new phone when you get it.  Lots of potential options.  Though I've got $5 bet that you'll one-finger-key every entry in to the new phone when you get it :P:drink:

Mi amigo Louis...I see thay you more experienced person than me in the iPhone. I have a question: My iPhone has aroun 300 contacts. I have been afraid to lost them since I have had problems with the iPhone lately. In one of my computers the Microsoft Outlook is empty so here is the question: If I syncro all the contacts from the iPhone goes to the Outlook (again the outlook is empty) or do I lost them?

Thanks buddy
