Commemorative key
« on: November 17, 2008, 01:58:28 AM »

Recently tried the key that I got in the little box and found it does'nt fit my bike. My dealer told me it is only decorative and is not meant to fit. Is this true or is there somebody out there with a key to my bike?

I checked mine next to the the regular key, and they look like they are the same, however I haven't even tried the regular key in the bike, nonetheless the "brass" one.  I'm curious as to whether all the commemorative keys are different or not.  There was a note in the box that said something about them being designed differently for each owner.  I may take a photo of my key and post it here to see if others are the same or not.  I just don't have the energy to get off my butt and walk the steps right now.

Should fit as far as I know, my '05 and '06 do, haven't heard any different on the new bikes.

I would say if you purchased your bike used, there is a possibility that the original owner did not turn the key in when he sold it and the dealer threw one in but not with the proper key code. You can have one made that will fit but they are $95. If you purchased your bike new and it does not fit, I would go back to the dealer and exchange it for one that does. They are supposed to work.

But the gold key says in the box that it's brass.  What a cop out!

Yet another, dealer who speaks without actually knowing the topic. Nothing makes me more furious than passing bad intel (hardly intel in this case, but ya know?) or bullchitting a customer about if a part needs tuning after installation. Ugh!

I use both of my commemorative keys each time I start one of my CVO's. They are fully functional, and come with a warranty. When I broke one, it was replaced at no cost with a wait time of like 10 days or so.

The dealer probably thinks the CVO's are for show only, huh?

Inside the box it says, "...hand-crafted like custom jewelry, giving each key a distinctive, one-of-a-kind appearance."  Mine looks identical to the one just posted, except my inset is black and blue.  I just realized that I could make a necklace out of this thing (but I don't think I would actually wear it).

Actually the blue plastic is just protection from scratches during shipping.  If you remove that you will find it is a nice reflective cut metal finish.

Just thought you ought to know.
