21" Front wheel
« on: August 17, 2005, 09:09:15 PM »

I saw a glide with a 21" front rim and tire that looked really nice. I also noticed a new 23" wheel in the mags. Does anyone have any experiance with these? What size wheel does the seeg have on the front? 3.5"? hd-dude said there may be a handling issue but as long as overall height and width are the same i cant that happening. Thanks ahead of time-VAN G

Van;
I am in the process of installing a 21" on the front of a Roadking. I can tell you that there is a definate height difference between the 21 and the 16. The lean angle on the kickstand is much greater. I will measur the difference and let you know what it is.In addition I had to loosen the front fender up and rotate it forward as the tire only had about 1/8" clearance on the back side of the front fender. At speed it will expand a bit and contact the fender. The stock rims are 3.5" and the 21 I'm installing is the same width. The look is great. But they do handle differently.

I changed out the 19" front wheel on my old Dyna for a 21" and it made a significant difference in the handling.  The overall height of the tire/wheel combination was only about 3/4", but it really slowed the steering down and exhibited a significant "flop" at low speeds.  I would check out the rack and trail calculation before going forward.  These calculations are available on-line at www.Perse.com

OK Cool...Here ya go, Just finished it up tonight. Put on LA Choppers 18" apes, Braided lines, 21" front, 18" rear, Thunder Headers w/ Falsey.  The bike is one i'm working on its not mine. I don't like the look of the apes but its actually a pretty comfortable riding position.

I like the way the 18"wheels look. The 21" front wheel is still growing on me. I saw A RK with 18" wheels front & back looked very nice.  [smiley=banana.gif]

HD-Dude

While you still have the bike please take a picture of the Thunder header w/falsey.

I have never seen that and can't imagine how it could look good. IMHO

Thanks

a shot at the Y and a left side shot!
