Issues on a 2008 SEUC
« on: November 17, 2008, 04:48:18 PM »

I have been having start problems with my Ultra everyday since the 605 campain with the grinding, puking back through the intake.I have taken it into the dealer and it has been there a week and they tell me it starts up everytime without the grinding and puking.WTF!!!!!!!!!!!I don't understand this at all!! I have paint flaking off the right upper engine case and all the paint has flaked off on the oil filter housing on the right case and Moco says all they can do is have the dealer touch it up with touch-up paint.WTF!!!!!!!!! I have clanging noises in all gears between 2600-2900 RPM and they tell me they don't hear it.WTF!!!!!!!!!! I have loud clicking sounds not pinging coming from the motor at cruising speeds of 75mph and they tell me thats normal WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!They are replacing my seat because the leather is flaking of along the stich lines and they are replacing my upper tour pac lid because the paint has completly flaked off around the luggage rack mounts. Heated grips have failed and they are just changing the controller in the left hand grip. I love this bike but this mickey mouse setup with Harley is getting to be too much!! Well I am done ranting and feel a little better now but I have had it with Harley Davidson.

My suggestion to you if you are at the point of frustration is to contact and attorney and keep him on stand by for the next conversation you will have with Harley.   Do not threaten them with a lawyer so to speak, let them know you have contacted one and you are ready to move forward legally if the following demands arent met.

The demands being what you stated above that are bothing you.  IE new engine or cases, all items chipped or peeling replaced and new heated hand grips.  If not be prepared to fight them it is chasing good with bad, but you get to a point of utter frustration and for a 35k motorcycle one should not have to put up with this

The customer service manager is Rusty Dire, but the person you probably want to be put in contact with is the public relations person.   You may have an out of service warranty as well depending on state and number of days your bike has been in for repair for each item.   In florida it is 30 days.

I would fight them you have nothing to lose except a lot of hair, and time sink.

If things have progressed so badly that it's neccessary to use an attorney wouldn't the use of the word "request" by the bike owner be much better than the word "demand"?

Request is not as intimidating as demand and most of the time gets much better results.

At least for me it works that way.

Chip

It is easier to request than demand since you can usually get more with honey than vinegar that is for sure.  Use whatever word suits you, although i would tend to agree in this case requesting probably get you further and if that doesn't work you could resort to demanding :)

Happy to report got the bike back from the dealer yesterday and what a difference a new(Correct) download and re-tune does for the motor. The dealer where I purchased the bike had installed an 07 international download on my compute and tweaked from there. My local dealer downloaded an 08 download and re-tuned and this bike has never run as strong as it does now. For a basic 110 motor it is developing 90hp with 108ft/lbs of torque. No more noises and lots of pull!! Many items replaced on bike under warranty and the only issue is the paint flaking off motor. This dealer will not touch it up and has pushed back on Moco to fix the paint issue on the motor. Time will tell?? My thoughts of other motorcyles have gone by the wayside.

Stick to your guns on the engine flaking.  It's powder coated not painted.  Touchup paint will NEVER look the same and you'll always notice it.

DesertBear,

Excellent news glad to hear that the motor / running woes have been taken care of for you.   Hopefully with a dealer backing you on the paint issues that too will get resolved satisfactorily.
