I understand I'm not the oldest rat in the barn, but I'm by no means the youngest buck in the woods either.
Just got out of a rather interesting meeting with my young engineers. Details don't really matter, but we have some detailed reviewing to accomplish. I'm not one to tell people how to do things.....unless they simply have no clue, since doing so detracts from the learning process. Today's tasking was met with blank stares. It's really quite simple. Tedious, cumbersome, and involved, but simple.........to the point of being "rote," almost.
Do a "line-by-line" document comparison from an earlier version to the latest version.
Blank stares!
I commented that Microsoft Excel would be the most appropriate tool to accomplish the task, but it didn't matter to me if "you use a Big Chief Tablet and a big fat #2 pencil, to do the comparison............just compare and tell me what is missing from the old stuff to the new stuff."
One person was old enough to remember The Big Chief!
Do you remember Big Chief Tablets?
Somewhere in and amongst my junk, I still have a few of these. Like most things of our youth, The Big Chief Tablet has fallen by the wayside............last produced in 2001. I used to use them back in my Noncommissioned Officer and early Warrant Officer days in the Army as I struggled with the advent of this amazing device on which I'm writing to you fine people now. Evidently, like most things, the parent manufacturer was bought by a bigger company (Mead)...........and so the story goes..........until they just stopped making them.
I'm a terminal forward thinker, but I LOVE looking back on the past............if for no other reason.......than to continue learning.
Happy Tuesday!
