The OE on the back of the bracket...can you see it without removing the bracket?  I finally looked at mine tonight and I didn't see OE on it, but you can't really see much of the backside of the bracket.  Is this something that I can bring up to the shop, have them check it, and change it if it's the wrong one?  My bike's date of manufacture is 10-08, so it appears that mine could be one with the wrong bracket.

I guess I should call in my VIN number to get a specific build date.  Being that this only happened up through 10-2-08 and mine is 10-08, the chances are slim that mine is the wrong one, but I still don't see OE on the back of the bracket.

The OE is on the back of the bracket, you have to remove to see it. mine has the bad one. was at the dealer on Sat, they have no tech tip or service bulletin on in. I gave them all the info I had and they are checking into it, Cust Serv was closed at the time. am going back down to Bminghm in a couple weeks, will have fixed then. they did order 3 of the newer brackets.

Looks like i will have to remove mine and check, my dealer insists that i have the new bracket but this thing leans over way to far, at times concerning me that it will fall over.

I had mine replaced w/ no problems. Truthfully, I can't tell much of a difference at all.

My dealer tried telling me that there isn't a difference in the brackets........till I insisted that they call HD.  Then it was a turn around for them.  They don't like anybody coming into the dealership knowing more than they do about a given issue.

had the same run in about knowing something and the mothership didn't tell them nothing.i told them that this website is better informed than they are,one of the differences is we'll do the research and they just stand around.the owner of the dealership I deal withtalked to me about my kickstand issue, and I told them, well I found out later in the conversation that they had an older customer that had the same issue on his ultra(non-cvo).they were going to handle this for this person and they were very grateful to me for getting this info for them  :2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:

Moving this thread back up for those that are still needing it.

The best way to tell is by your build date.  Here's the info. that I got from a friend at the MoCo:

This newer bracket, as you’ve likely heard, stands the bike up taller.  It has “OE” in raised letters on the back side to easily differentiate it.  The new bracket stands the bike up about 3° taller when on the sidestand, which substantially reduces the lift-off effort.  For reference, the original bracket was p/n 50078-08, which was used from Job 1 up until October 2, 2008.  The new bracket is p/n 50096-09.

From the outside (the side that you see when it's on the bike), mounted on the bike, they look identical.
