Performance work on 09
« on: November 19, 2008, 11:53:37 PM »

Here in California the dealer won't do any performance work, that includes something as simple as installing new pipes, a race tuner and a new air breather. It is just ridiculous. Does anyone know if I take my bike out of state would a dealer do performance work on a bike with California plates? Arizona is just a nice morning ride. I don't know if any of you have looked in tthe Screaming Eagle book for parts but most of them say not legal in California, but after listening to everyone here I definately need to have some work done before the thing blows up due to overheating.
I really like the sound of Vance and Hines Basics I have them on my 04 Road king that was bumped up to a 95 with SE heads and 211 cams compression is now 10.5 to 1, the only thing I dont like is the compression releases I have burned my thumb more than once pressing them down
The 06 SE Ultra I had I had a tuner and the same pipes put on
WHat would you guys recommend for a air breather, my buddy has the heavy breather on his road glide but it says it wont fit with the lowers on although someone here on the site said it will. I don't even know with the stock one is
I just know if I dont get some work done soon I am goin to have problems with the 110 and I am not confident enough to think I can install a race tuner and do it correctly
What cam comes in the SE Ultra stock and what are some of you putting in yours?
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, please remember I am not nearly as eduacated as alot of you here on the site an am trying to learn
Thanks

I live in San Diego too. If you want your work done by an authorized dealer, and you want performance upgrades, take your bike to
Sweetwater HD, National City, Ca. Their service dept. will do whatever you ask, pipes, race tuner, cam changes, motor builds, dyno tunes,
etc., Plus, warranty the work. Purchased my '08 White SEUC from them, with Rinehart true dual, race tuner, high flow air, plus dyno tune at time of purchase, I'm happy with them. 619-477-4477, ask for Brian in service, he is their Service Manager, nice guy, and ready to help you out. His wife owns the place.  ;D ;DCall them up. Hope this helps..

You can get whatever you want done in the Sacramento area. Not sure why not down south.

The CVO 110's come with a CVO 255 cam. The cam is 0.550" lift and crappy timing setup to meet EPA requirements. ;)

And their daughter Anastasia works there too. Nicer folks you couldn't ask for. Wish they'd offer some discounts though.

Seems like all of the Dago dealerships are in cahoots with each other in not offering any kind of price reduction.

Thanks Spiderman
I have purchased all my bikes from Biggs and lastyear they quit doing any performance upgrades in fear of EPA fines. I did use Sweetwater against Biggs for my new one. Sweetwater said 38500 out the door for the SE ultra and Biggs wanted 2500 more I asked them to meet Sweetwaters price and they did. I will be calling them I did speak with a guy at Cycle doctor in Costa Mesa and He will also do the work I want done, but Sweetwater is closer

You know, it's weird, When I was doing business with San Diego H-D, the guys in parts, service and sales were super to deal with, but the motorclothes ladies were impossible. Think of the worst _ _ tch you've ever met and multiply by a factor of 10.  Even the guys who worked at SD H-D complained about them. As such, I always bought jackest, chaps, gloves, boots, raingear. Screamin Eagle attire whatever at BIGGS. The young ladies who worked the motorclothes section were incredible to me. When the son in law of the owner of San Diego H-D started running the business into the ground, I tried going up to BIGGS. I don't know why, but I cannot seem to communicate with the guys in Sales,Service and Parts at that dealership. As such, I headed down to Sweetwater (formerly SouthCoast) and have been buying whatever I need from them even though they are 30 miles from my house as opposed to 15 for either SD H-D or BIGGS. I go over to El Cajon H-D once in awhile as they sometimes have  clearance rack/table. Bought a pair of H-D sneakers (VANS style)  that way a few months back. Anyway, my point in all this is that I have never encountered a dealership that is consistent in it's dealings with it's customers across the board with the exception of FB's dealerships where they put the screws to you in every department.

Just my $0.02

Pretty much how it is here too, Brian.  Rocket HD folks are rude at best.  Columbia HD folks are just a bunch of the nicest folks I've ever met, but technically incompetent.  Foster's is a little of both.  The folks down at Riders, north of B'ham are really nice folks, but they want your first born and two appendages for whatever you want to buy......I find it much easier to stick with Jenni and the other 20% off houses.

Well you know Henry when I started in with this thing with UPTOWN CYCLES, my intent was to keep myself occupied and try to maybe offer some intelligence in the business of buying parts and getting machine work, custom paint etc done for folks on the site. And I've been able to help a couple of members, but on top of having to overcome people's skepticism that you're not out to treat them the same way they get treated at the local H-D shop, you also have to deal with insane taxes, shipping costs and tariffs/customs/duties on foreign sales. It's no wonder only folks like Jenni S and Chicago H-D can make a go of it. You've got to do a HUGE volume to make a buck, that's for sure. It's a tough racket and every idiot who treats people like chit , screws them out of their hard earned dollars or has no clue what the hell they're talking about only makes it that much harder. Sorry to be on a rant but I just got back from one of these so called sales at El Cajon H-D. Here's their idea of sale. T-shirts Buy 1 at full price get a 2nd at 1/2 price. The regular price of a t-shirt being $22. So it's two for $33 ? That's still $16.50 apiece for shirts that cost the shop at most $6 each. Oh yeah, what a sale, what a deal. Hell sign me up or a hundred - - - - - - EFFIN NOT !!!!!!

I'm with ya, man.  To be honest, I usually don't buy anything from a local or regional dealership.  I'll go in there to look and see what piques my interest, and if it is something I can't live without, I'll write down the part number and order it from one of the 20% off houses.  OK.......I gotta wait.......and pay shipping, but it comes up less expensive in the end, and if I order over the phone, the folks are so much nicer than the givachits at the local/regional stores.

Now that we know who works on bikes on the West Coast how about us east coast guys?

2009 CVO Ultra sounds like a sewing machine compared to my traded in 05 Ultra with the Screamin Eagle exhaust and Vance and Hines DFO.

Heard Rinehart’s and Vance and Hines slip-on pipes are good and also am seeing a lot about removing the baffles from the stock exhaust.  Who's doing what and how’s the performance being affected?

Where are you in VA?  There's great engine folks all over the South.  I met one up in NYC who is REALLY good.  Depends on who you want doing your work and how far you're willing travel.

Where in VA are you Ultrafun?  Most of the dealers around where I live will do just about whatever you want.
