Throttle by Wire & Tuning w/SERT Drama.....
« on: November 26, 2008, 02:59:29 PM »

I had waited over 11,000 miles to tune my FLHRSE4. When the tuner worked his "magic", I got the numbers I was interested in. However, the Drama Department had something to say about this....

My build is simple, RTD, HighFlow, a Cam and Aftermarket computer add on as a bundle. Even after the Cam package was added, I waited for the tuner to be brought up to speed on the TBW lag issues, the software to correct these issues and whatever training was included.

I watched the tuner reach the goals of 100+ HP and 114 TQ. Then I rode my SE RoadKing and the drama began...I', hundreds of miles away from home, in the lovely town of Pearblossom, CA which is low desert for sure. Cold ride home, blah blah....The mentor computer add on failed moments after hitting the freeway. I gave it some time as required to work out the computations, but it failed nonetheless. I unplugged it after 100 miles of back firing and sputtering at 40,000 RPM's. The TBW lag was excessive now, occurring every time I start from a stop and even worse in traffic. I thought I was going to dump it 2 times due to the "lag" response.

2 weeks later I have an appointment to check the work by the same tuner after hearing my complaints. I was looking at some ice cold rain and maybe snow from the last few days; also knowing the work he did before, I was rolling the dice with my SERK.

After lengthy emails from CVO members and conversations with tuners here and out of state, I ended up cancelling my appointment and chose to stop being a Guinea pig for this shop, and will wisely go to RC Cycles in Hayward, CA to tune my Ride with confidence. That's next week depending on weather. I will post up the end of the drama after the tune there, of this I am sure...no drama.

Mike

I can only tell you of my personal experience.
On my 09 SEUC there was a great deal of throttle lag when the bike was on cruise.
Not anymore.
I had the bike tuned yesterday and mentioned about the lag at cruise.
Brian the tuner said, "no problem".
He was right, no more problem after the tune!
Good luck with your bike!

I still feel the lag (not tuned yet) in tight corners, if i let up at all then roll the throttle there is a big lag. I have learned to deal with it, but I sure would like to get rid of it.

Thanks all. I will post upon completion, so stay tuned..

I am of the opinion, and "eddfive" has directed this chapter so I was listening carefully, that I will be in the market for the the "lastest version of SERT which is 4.77; or SEST 2.0, Direct Link .73B or MasterTune", just to get rid of the lag completely if possible.

I am so willing to spend the right money for my SERK at this time. Yeah, I know it will be costly and redundant to purchase another SERT setup or key. But what's a guy to do? The dealer won't do anything; He'll say I am stuck with the product (SERT) due to the unusable interface after installation on my bike. I ordered it back in Oct 07, the SERT came in Nov 7th 2007, and the bike came in (late) in mid January. Plus, the sales person who became friends with myself and my girlfriend had passed away months ago (long story, sad too). I think I shouldn't even waste my breath asking, but who knows, huh?

The highlight of this whole wasted weekend was having a chat with eddfive, and hearing a familiar name in the tuning industry that he respects, and that was someone I actually have known for a while who actually did the tune on my SE FatBoy.

I love it when a plan comes together.

Stay tuned.....

Naw Ya'all,  have ya heard of the New Math? We use unreasonable numbers, so we add letters of the alphabet to confuse the reader into thinking the author actually knows what the F#%$ he's talking about. ie ... 4K 40K 401K and the famous fork U K? Allow the parameters to flow over you once before reaching the Zen, please.

I'd love to say it was a typo, but as Hoist has already pointed out, it's the turbine Homeboy, and a lot more........coffee. What, do I detect doubt? lol

Hey brewnut56,

I have most or all issues resolved at this time. I am still planning a final run to the Master Tuner in a couple of months. He is going to pull the generic Piggyback Terminal Velocity computer off and I will provide the correct cam numbers for him so we can eliminate the moderate guesswork.

I am not the member of this site to call out version numbers. I do not know the SE Super Tuner at all. I hope you can find your answers soon. Try a PM to Edfive.....Tell him I sent you. Good luck.

The lastest software version of SE Pro Super Tuner is 32111-09.  The MOCO just did an internet update yesterday to the software.  If you have the newest VCI dongle with the program button then this version of software will program through it.  I hope this is now as clear as mud!!!!
