Vibration
« on: August 25, 2005, 06:21:27 PM »

Has anyone had problems with a motor mount or something else causing vibration? It may be my imagination, but yesterday I began feeling a vibration in my footboards that wasn't there before. Today it seems more excessive almost to the point of where it seems it is robbing power from the motor. Anyone have ideas? BTW, I dropped it off at the dealer this afternoon to let them check it out.

My vibration was my maxi fuse hanging down behind the frame and rubbing on the belt. It went away when the belt ate through the fuse and fuse holder. But it could be felt through the floorboards.

Which floor board did you think you felt it through and was there any sound that accompanied the vibration.   Did the vibration get better or worse with speed or lack of?

Seems to have started with left floorboard. Now the whole bike seems to be vibrating more. Also, if I engaged the clutch and coast, it seems to go away. Not much if any abnormal  noise noted.

Check the top motor mount.

And/or Compensator Nut. Do you hear somewhat of a grinding or rubbing noise?

The "REAR" motor mount is on the tranny where the swingarm pivot shaft is located..orangseeg...don't know what you mean by rear...maybe your dealer is whacked??????? The only other motor mounts are  the front one and on top.

AT 12k miles they had to replace my front motor mount.  The vibration is very apparent at slow speeds and idle.  Same thing happened to my service manager 's flhrsei2 at 15k miles.

OK, I had the top and front motor mount retorqued. Adjusted my pipes so that no metal to metal contact with the frame was occurring. Dealer said the vibration was nothing out of normal. But what I do know is that on Thursday last week I specifically noted a difference in my bike. The vibration is of the high frequency nature and can be felt in the seat as well as handlebars. Oh, BTW I found the bolt that was missing from my rear cylinder header. It was stuck between the starter and the tranny.
