Finding neutral on CVO 6 speed
« on: November 27, 2008, 01:00:55 PM »

Just wondering if there are /were any issues with the CVO 's  with finding neutral when things get hot. I purchased a 09 SERG a month ago and have not had a chance to put any mile on it due to snow and cold weather so I really haven't had a chance to try out my bike  yet.
I have a 08 fatboy that was impossible to get into neutral if the bike got hot during heavy traffic or a parade when the temp was high. Is this common or just a issue with my fatty or does it show up in the cvo world too.
BTW anyone know what causes it?

Clutch adjustment and primary oil could make a difference. Your new bike has a hyd. clutch that your 08 didn't have .I think each bike has it's own nitch .Congrates on your new bike.JDO

I've noticed it on my SERG. I attribute it to newness, and think it will get easier as it breaks in. All my bikes got a lot better when I switched them over to Royal Purple Synthetics. With just a couple of hundred miles on it, I'll change the trans fluid at 2.5k.

I've got 4,000 on my SERG and it's still tricky finding n. Changing to Bel-Ray helped tremendously. It's getting better and I expect it to continue to.

I have 17,000 on my '08 SEUC and it has always been a challenge getting it into neutral.  No different either hot or cold!   :nixweiss:

My 09 is better than my 07 and was a little trickey at first til I pulled about a dozen or so slam shifts (no clutch) going up and slow speed dumps down from 3rd to 2nd..

No offense, but you have not ridden the bike at all and are already concerned you might not find the neutral? Give the thing a chance at least!

Ride safely,

No Worries man just wondering outloud if it is common on all 6 speeds. My understanding is that is  what this forum is all about.
Thanks for the info gentlemen. I will look at changing the oil in the 08 to make it easier on the wife in heavy traffic.(Her bike)
Take Care

I think the "hard to find neutral" has been common in Harley transmissions for quite some time. Changing to a better fluid has helped a lot.

Only once in a while do I find it hard to find neutral, on either of my bikes.  Otherwise it's no problem.

All in all this 09 is easier than the 07 I had...I believe the "throw" is shorter, it sure seems to shift better or easier somehow...
Maybe mental justification for buying it..
