Lowers and engine heat ??
« on: December 01, 2008, 04:41:00 PM »

I thought I would ask this question on here because the people on here seem to be more knowledgable than most !!
I have a 2009 SERG. I have heard people say that lowers will make the engine run hotter in the summer and some others say completely the opposite---that the lowers actually funnel more air directly onto the engine and will actually help keep it cooler. What do you guys think ?

The bike will without any doubt run much cooler without the lowers, especially the rear cylinder.

I think another thing the helps a lot is taking the chrome cover off the oil cooler so it can get air around the unit.  Those 2 thing dropped the oil temp from the 320-340 to around 210-230 in 80 degree weather.

Hehehehe. :2vrolijk_21:

Don't disagree w/you or Axil, but I think it would be easier to leave the bike parked then to de-chrome it. :nervous: ;D :D ;D :D

Is 320-340 oil temperature a honest problem for the engine ( and will cause a collaps )  or is this still ok ?

Removing the doors to the lowers also helps.

Then what do you do ?
Only in winter driving with the lowers ?
 In summer without lowers ?
Or what ?

" Removing the doors to the lowers " What do you mean ?
That are only non-vented at the SERG , i think .

I have a SERK, but I'd NEVER consider lowers anyway! (or a fairing for that matter!). No way I'd ever consider using them in summer, ever. Get it remapped immediately too, regardless of any mods. Even if you do no mods, get it remapped. That'll cool it down tremendously. I ride in 100deg weather at times, and oil temp still never exceeds 260-280 deg when it gets hot. Normal operating temp on mine is 230-240. ;)
