Throttle Lag ....Round III
« on: December 06, 2008, 04:28:12 PM »

HI. Happy Holidays to all.

I just got off the phone with the tuner shop I will be turning to for my SE RoadKing. The gentleman on the phone, who is not the tuner (BOB) but I believe It might have been Ron, the "R" in RC Cycles.....I was making an appointment with them, for later this month, and we got to talking about SERT I already own, as an older version, and how the 110" 08' Owners get burned for the SERT because it does not handle the tables for correcting the throttle lag.

He told me there is a service bulletin addressing the throttle lag issues with TBW. Also explained, was the flash upgrade or downloadable upgrade for SERT owners.

Am I behind the times or have we already heard of this? I was really mad at the fact that an inherent throttle lag problem with TBW on the 08-09's and the owners of the older version SERT were out of luck with the new software only available at an extra cost of new Super Tuner or Master Tuner packages. And of course, the third party aftermarket links that cost more as well.

I was just told by West Hills, CA Harley (Barger's) that I was "just burned" and no such upgrade exists. I have to spend more money.

What is the bottom line? I trust the guy at RC Cycle's and the word I have from eddfive who explained the whole mess to me. Anybody get flashed lately? I want to.....

The download is the delay so the Throttle position is not reset.  A dealer just did this flash to an "08" Ultra I had tuned and it had no effect on the throttle response, it just delays shutoff to make sure the hand is off the throttle and the "0" (5)TPS position does not change.  Having said that, the bike can be tuned with the 4.77 version of SERT to minimize the effect, but the Electronic throttle delay will still be there.  Your best option is the new SEST, Direct Link or TTS MasterTune as they all have the Throttle grip feature to allow adjustment of the electronic throttle so there is no delay.  Bob should be able to steer you to the least expensive way to go.

After reading the other thread the software upgrade was done sometime in April or June of 08.  The 08 Ultra I refer to was purchased in March of 08 and did not have the software upgrade from the MOCO.  Do not think this will solve your FBW issue but this software fix can be important if the throttle is open at all when you turn the bike off.  Reseting the TPS at shutoff can cause higher than normal idle at start up and the bike really running bad.
