I have a similar problem......
after the recall was done the first time, both cylinders were weeping from the cylinder base, and both head gaskets started to leak about 2 days later.
I picked the bike up on a friday and was about 2 blocks away when I looked down and saw the rear cylinder base weeping oil, the dealer asked if I wanted to leave it again, or drop it off on Monday morning. I didn't have a ride home so I took the bike home for the weekend (they were really nice and offered me a loaner bike for the weekend too!), I also wanted to see if I'd get lucky and the weeping might stop.
I rode the bike all weekend and by sunday afternoon not only was the rear cylinder still weeping oil at the base, but BOTH head gaskets were also leaking oil again!
brought it back on monday and showed them the leaks, they scratched their heads and took the bike back in for the second gasket replacement....
went back on Wednesday after they had finished and they were concerned about the front cylinder weeping oil at the base!
I mentioned that it was funny that the front cylinder was fine after the first gasket replacement and now it's leaking??? I got no real answer...
they test rode it for for 2 days and on Friday they decided to order a new front cylinder (at HD's advise), also found out that the mechanic decided to swap cylinders to see if the rear cylinder leak would follow to the front, THAT'S why the front cylinder was now leaking at the base! ok, makes sense..
I also asked if swapping the clyinders would affect the seal of the piston rings, and they said "no" it wouldn't. (I don't believe that, but what do I know. I've only rebuilt a few small block engines and have been doing all of my own mechanical work for the last 30 years...lol)
I stopped by the dealership the following thursday to see how things are going and the bike is done, BUT....... front cylinder is STILL weeping oil!
they test rode it till friday afternoon and it slowed down allot but was still weeping.....I took the bike home and they asked me to keep an eye on it and let them know if it doesn't stop..
I asked them what is the next step if it doesn't stop weeping? they said that they would probably order new cases next.....
Now, I'm no mechanic, but to swap cases requires a complete tear down of the engine? right?
"If" I let them do that , what should definately be replaced when the motor is reassembled?
I mentioned that I thought HD should replace the motor instead of replace the cases... they didn't think HD would do that.
I know if the motor in my brand new car had an oil leak that a gasket replacement wouldn't fix, they wouldn't just replace the enging block?
that was the beginning of October and I haven't rode it as much as I wanted since then, but it's STILL weeping some oil from the front cylinder.
so I'm going to have to take it back.......
