Serviceable batteries in the valve stem caps or replace the whole thing?

Like the simplicity of it.  Have heard of automotive variants of the same type of system being victims of valve stem cap theft.  Hard to imagine some dweeb actually scouting out valve stem caps.  Guess there's someone out there to steal anything....

As much as I like the simplicity of the thing my first reaction is not being wild about the idea of yet another fob.  Alarm arming, remote monitoring, bike key, trailer key, disk lock key.  I kind of miss the days when a bike didn't have any key at all.

Which I guess is the unspoken other side of the coin.  Nostalgia for the old rattle trap bikes is nostalgia for when we rode them.

Schmoopys Jeep has a similar tire system, no fob just an annoying chime unitl you satisfy it with adequate air pressure.  Relatively accurate at that...

Do like the idea of being able to check tire pressure quickly, easily and cleanly but $200 bucks is quite pricey imo.  Have to be well under $100 for me to have any interest at all.

Each valve stem has it's own battery that is replacable, as for stealable Maybe but it would do you no good as the fob would be needed. Isn't everything stealable. As for cost not likely to ever be under $100 but you could go with out and check your tire pressure every ride.[ But who really does ] I agree about the another fob! I will place it in a locked fairing pocket. I know where you could save a little money on them , bet you do also.

I think a tire pressure monitor makes perfect sense, however at around US$200 this is too expensive in my mind. Has anyone tried the little caps which you put on at perfect pressure and they light up or something, if the pressure is off? I have no details, but I think I remember those have been much cheaper, and actually no additional device to carry around and monitor. Anyone out there with more information?

We were all sitting around talking about these and we realized that there is an unwritten rule that if you want to check your tire pressure the valve will always at the top of the wheel NEVER where you can get to it.

Have no idea what it is, but the PDF BigDog attached mentions it comes with an anti-theft option.  Of course they don't say what that is... Tack weld it to the wheel maybe!   :confused5:

Either that, or a little red loctite before you screw the stem cap on.

I think I'll wait for it to become a standard item integrated into the bikes other systems, just like the one on many four wheeled vehicles.  One more idiot light to tell you to add air, no need for a fob or special valve stem caps with batteries that require replacement.  In the meantime, I'll continue to use the old fashioned method of removing the valve stem cap and checking the pressure with a handy dandy gauge.  While I'm doing that, I'll also be checking the tires for wear and damage which the automated system will not find.

And Jerry, the really sad part is if the economy doesn't improve we all will have plenty of time to check our air, oil, tread, and whatever else that can be checked before we ride.

Just asking but I thought I heard you couldn't remove the sensors from inside the wheel or it would through a warning light on continually? I checked on the anti theft device , The sensor that screws onto the valve stem has an allen head set screw [Not the greatest but someone couldn't just take it off like a valve stem cap.]
