There's a silver CVO RG in Santa Barbara that had my name on it.  Give 'em a call -- first come, first served at MSRP ++++

This past Friday, my wife bought an 09 Streetglide at a dealer in Chilicothe, Ohio for $2,000 off Harley list (in stock bikes only).  They did not charge setup and the documentary fees were $140.00   .   The dealers around Columbus still wanted full price plus setup.  A couple small town dealers were offering no freight/setup and $500.00 in store credit.

The dealer where we bought said dealers would call into Harley complaining about their $2,000 discount and Harley would probably call and say they would cut back on their supply.  Dealer said they had to do something to get the phone to ring and people in the door.

A picture of a sign at a business in our local paper stated "Customers wanted, no experience necessary".

Bob,
First, congrats to your wife on a great purchase.  The more I hear about the 09 frame, bigger gas tank and no wires... all good things.
Second, I love the sign verviage.  Love it!
Third, I did not realise how close you were to where we were for Christmas.  We drove to Laurelleville, OH to wish Grandma a Happy B'Day and Merry Christmas, stayed in Circleville.  Next time, we will for sure do a shout out.

Orange and Black at Kelly's in Billerica, MA where my daughter works.  Been there 3 weeks.  4 people came in to see it trhe first day as they had been waiting.  No one bought it.  They had a pool as to what time that day it would be gone.  The red SE Ultra was there for a long time.  It was traded to a dealer that gave them a yellow SERG for it.

Hey, it's my daughter's 21st birthday today. :2vrolijk_06:

Nice find, unfortunately i don't see this becoming the norm, Harley would rather lay people off and lose dealers than approve discounts or incentives.

Image. If they start discounts now they will have to continue even in good times. How are they going to cut prices when all other factors such as labor, taxes, tooling has gone up?

Probably some misguided theory that discounts cheapen the "brand".  Much rather cut production, put people out of work, let dealer's go bankrupt, let cash flow suffer, etc.  I haven't figured out how bragging about not cutting your prices as you slowly go bankrupt is a shrewd management practice, but there again I never figured out how to get people to give me double what a product was worth while I pissed on their shoes either.  Obviously those Harley folks know something that most business folks do not.

Discounts can be done without the fire sale cheap theatrics of the auto industry, or retail in general this holiday season, through less obvious things like direct to dealer incentives, low or no interest financing, etc.  If 2009 turns out to be even close to as bad as I think it will be, even the well capitalized dealers are going to really start hurting.  We will see then if Harley can hold the line on discounting.

Hey skreminegul07 : We do business at Kelley's! We purchased my SERK and my wife's RK there. The CVO is currently there getting "enhanced". We will be headed down mid week to check on the progress. What is your daughters name so we can wish her Happy Birthday.

They have to cover that 7% vig on common shares!  When they cut it in half, then they will cut production..

Nobody told them CVOs already have everything and don't need anything else? :huepfenlol2:
