Why to go to gear drive cams?
« on: August 31, 2005, 08:35:44 PM »

This is why....A friend of mine brought his bike to me to look at because it was dumping large amounts of oil out of the air cleaner. It had also bogged down on him on the freeway and acted "like he was towing a semi". After looking at all of the obvious things I concluded that the engine had sumped (no oil being pulled out of the crank case). It had no where to go but up and out the breathers. I though i'd better crack the cam chest open and check out the oil pump. The bike is a 2002 Roadglide with just under 15k on the clock. Check out the wear on the cam shoes.

Here's one of the pump drives.

This really sucks for a bike with only 15k on it! This is going to cost about $450.00 for a new pump assembly and cam support plate. Since I'm in there I talked my friend into (it was pretty easy) replacing the cams. After talking with a couple of local shops we decided to go with the Andrews 26G gear drive setup. It requires no head work and will work very well in a stock motor. It is expected to gain about 6-10 hp and kicK the torque up in the low and mid range.

Jim, did that just happen or is he up running?  Is there a dyno sheet?  Will those cams work in the 103" the same?

The reputation of those stupid shoes is why I cut oil filters in half every time.

If you strap those oil filter halves to your shoes then those stupid shoes will make a short man appear taller.

At least that's what I've heard!
