Karma bit me in the ass last night. Was having a really good time enjoying some holiday spirits when got a phone call from a local buddy who made the mistake of deciding to adjust his lifters the evening before they were supposed to leave for Florida for the holidays with the bike in the trailer behind them.
Was something he'd not done before and said he couldn't find zero lash. "You just do it by feel" was all I could think of to describe it. After a few minutes on the phone I bundled up for the 12 degree weather and slid over to his place to see what was going on. Sure enough wasn't even close. So we got the feel of zero lash so he could spin the pushrods out another 1/10th of an inch and all was good with the world. Simple chores that should have never been too tough.
Get home and I'm now in tinkering mode. Got a new cruise control cable for the Road Glide that needs to go on and figure "hey, another simple chore." Get the old one off and can't get the new one in the whole in the throttle body. It just won't go. Doing it a bit one handed with a sore shoulder but even so, damn thing just won't go in the hole.
So for the teasing I gave the buddy 90 minutes before I finally break down and take the throttle body off the engine to get the cable housing lined up well enough to go through the hole. Turns out there was a burr and small crush that were making it difficult. Never impossible though. Just not holding my mouth right. But not all the simple things really are. Especially when you just gave a buddy holiday teasing for the same thing
