Not sure if this has been posted before. This is a great tribute to this amazing plane and the people who flew it.

Just goes to show you what we can do when we put our minds to it.  Chit I sure hope the spirit and ingenuity that build this great aircraft continues to grow and flourish.

I had the privelige of seeing this bird take off from Kadena AFB in Okinawa in the fall of '68.  It was an awesome sight (and sound).

How awesome are those planes! And to think they were built in the 60's. I watched a show on them a long time ago, because of the materials and expantion at speed, the fuel tanks leaked really bad. So when they went up they only had adequate fuel for take off and to hook up with an air tanker to fill the tanks. Awesome slide show Nige!  :2vrolijk_21:

Cool slide show. Work with a guy who was a fireman related to the fueling of these things. He has some great stories. It was not an environmentally friendly PC plane by any stretch of the imagination. Neither is my CVO

Extremely cool show on the Blackbird. My wife worked for AT&T out in San Diego in the late '80's and supported the military bases. We went up to March AFB a day before the annual airshow one year and got to see the SR-71 land at the base for the weekend show. Way cool! I built a 16 inch long model of one while we lived out there. Have a cool pencil sketch of the 9 pilots (the Habus) flying Blackbirds at the time. Hanging on my wall.

Here is another good sight on this amazing aircraft.

Thanks for sharing the post!

Nice tribute to the "Black Bird". They were our sister outfit (to our U-2 squadrons) and I hated to see them fade away.

Cool Stuff.  There's an A-12 at the Davidson Center for Space Exploration here in Huntsville.  Awesome machine.
Years ago, I used to see  the "Blackcats" (U2) fly out of Osan AB.  As old as they are.........even those are awesome machines.  Don't think I've ever seen prettier Kapton wire bundles.
