Power Commander
« on: September 02, 2005, 08:33:10 AM »

I believe my PC has s@#t the bed! When I installed the PC I saw a marked improvement in performance. Last week I noticed my bike seemed to be "sloppy". Didn't start as well. Seemed sluggish going through the gears etc... Yesterday I removed my PC and the bike ran better. Not as good as when I first installed the PC obviously.  Any similar issues from anyone?

Would explain why you were not present last night at Bike Night at the Long Branch.

That thing sure has been a lot of trouble!

What other mods do you have? Did you connect you PC to a computer and look at the map? Depending on your mods and settings of the bikes ECM you could do some harm without it.

All I have done is Rineharts and SE air cleaner. I have the Stage 1 download as well.

Another follow up question. Does anyone know what  the symptoms are of a failing Power Commander?

Thanks Don! The map you gave me earlier worked real nice. So did the 103 map from the PC site. It seems now though that the maps get corrupted? Seems richer to the point of "blubbering". Nice word huh! BTW Don. What was the name of that stuff that you used over the painted lettering on the chrome parts? Mine is coming off and I am going to get them warrantied but don't want it to happen again.

So the loaded map becomes corrupted?  As in you can reload it and it straightens out again for awhile or as in you look at the loaded map on a PC and compare it against what it used to be and things arent' the same anymore?  Either way that's almost certainly a PC problem.

If you've got the Stage I download underneath the PC the bike will run decently without it.  Send the PC off to to the MFTR and have them repair/replace it.  My experiece for the turn around was that it took a couple of weeks total from the time it left my hand to the time the replacement was delivered.

That stuff is Nyalic.  Best long term clear protective coating I know of.

Hey Don, I reloaded the map this morning, and it seems to run fine???? We'll see. I am going to send it back anyway. BTW, I ran my bike with the Stage 1 for the last couple of days and it runs quite good other than a little popping when you let off. I almost could live with just the Stage 1.

That was the same experience I had Cat.  The Stage I map was pretty good.  Not as good as the PC with the good map loaded.  But pretty good nonetheless.  Certainly glad the Stage I map was my foundation for the bike to run from.

If your loaded map is corrupting then it sounds like you've got a PC on the fritz.  Only other thing to double check (and if you're at all questioning it I'd still send it in to them) is to clean and double check for tightness all the battery terminals and the ground connections.   It's possibly that issues there can make a PC barf data when the problem isn't the PC itself.

I've seen a few fail in my day, they would go to a rich mode and the bike would smoke black. I had one that flooded and washed the cylinder walls with gas down into the crankcase.

Hey Don. After reloading the map it seemed to be OK. A bunch of us went out for dinner last night. On the way home, I pulled away from a light and got a little heavy on the clutch going to second. Pulled the front wheel up about 4 inches. Scared the crap out of me and the guy riding beside me. Yeah, it's OK for now. I am still going to send it in though. Thanks.
