SO Many 09 SERG For Sale
« on: December 21, 2008, 07:14:10 AM »

Why do you all think that so many 09 SERGs are being sold with so little miles on them? The resale on these bikes is more than any other SE bikes on ebay more listed. Thanks Doc

You noticed that too?  I don't have an answer, but it sure is entertaining to watch.   :2vrolijk_21:

This is just my two cents, which is probably worth less than two cents.

I've ridden the 09SERG and while it looks great, I found it to be less than comfortable than I expected. The chopped wind deflector does NOTHING and I got buffeted hard at freeways speeds. With all that buffeting I could NOT hear the stereo at freeway speeds either. Then again I'm an old spoiled guy who wants lowers, a tour pack, and a windshield that sheilds the wind. I guess what I'm saying is that it's possible that the folks who bought them soon became disillusioned. If I bought one I'd have to add a tourpack, lowers and a taller windscreen just to make it comfortable on long trips. And If I did all that, I might as well buy an Ultra.

Yeah, but they sure do look good.

I know exactly what you mean, IH.  I'm accustomed to my creature comforts.  There's a way........and a price to make good looks comfortable, but stock off the floor, that SERG is just good looking....and that's just about it.

So Many 09's? There are 2 as of today. 1 at a premium starting bid. The other at nearly 36k. With the economy how it is I'm sure people can be forced to sell do to a job loss or.... I personally Think the only needed change on the SERG is the wind shield. Every thing else is an option. I have no use for lowers, chaps are fine. The added tour pack is fine for the long haul but it's having a like a luggage rack on a Porsche. If You are looking for pure utility why not buy the ultra and add a trailer hitch. Improvement's are only limited by the imagination's of the owner's. This comment is not about me. It's about us and a brotherhood of appreciation for the most respected HD ever. extras optional.

I'm sure its the economy 30k is a lot of motorcycle. if you stretched out to buy the bike I'm sure it would be the first thing to go during tuff times.

I saw 4 on ebay the other day, mine wont be here till Feb, but I cant imagine selling it right after I get it. Some I thought they were just trying to make a profit, but I agree with some of you here that it could be due to tough times. Myself, I would ask the better half to get a second job! I would, but then that would cut into my riding time!! ;D

That's a real simple fix, by calling Clearview.

Then again I'm an old spoiled guy who wants lowers, a tour pack, and a windshield that sheilds the wind. I guess what I'm saying is that it's possible that the folks who bought them soon became disillusioned.

Me too, but it's hard to believe someone would spend that kind of money and then not know how to customize a Harley to your liking.  Then again, it could be nubes so taken back by the SERG's looks that they couldn't help but buy one.

If I bought one I'd have to add a tourpack, lowers and a taller windscreen just to make it comfortable on long trips. And If I did all that, I might as well buy an Ultra.

The Road Glide, imo, is purchased primarily for the touring advantages of the fixed fairing.  I've ridden them all, and NOTHING cuts the wind like a Road Glide.  I can't tell you how many times I've pulled in for gas with a group, and had NO IDEA they were all fighting wind until I heard them talking about it.  Fighting the wind adds to fatigue.

The Ultra is a beautiful bike to be sure.  I haven't done the math (RG + lowers, tp, Clearview vs stock Ultra), because it wouldn't matter to me.  I know it's cheaper to make your own Ultra-RG than to make a fixed fairing Ultra.  And, I like the RG's flexibility when using a detachable tp.  I can swap windshields, seat, and tp, inside of an hour.  Go from touring to bar hopper.  That's my 2 1/2 cents anyway.

I'm surprised Harley hasn't introduced an Ultra-RG.  I'll bet they do in the near future!!

I was wondering why too?

I have always been told this was the best riding bike HD makes...since I am tall more than once I have been told "if you ever ride one it will be the only bike you ride".

Personally I always thought they were down right ugly!!!  UNTIL 09!!!  The first 09SERG I saw was the orange/black, I had already made my mind up I was going to buy the silver/blue USE4.  When I saw the SERG I was no longer sure...to me, to look at it, the SERG is one of the coolest bikes HD has ever made.

Even after I decided on the USE4 while riding my new beast I wondered across the silver/silver SERG, again I was thinking how freek'n cool that bike is.

I bought my ultra for all the right reasons and have no regrets...BUT man I would love to have an 09SERG setting next to it.

I also was a little dissapointed with my 09 SERG off the floor, but with the simple addition Of a Clearview Recurve, Lowers, Rider Backrest and Chopped Tourpak,  It surpasses my 07 SEUC for touring comfort and handleing, I was able to get used lowers and a tourpak and painted them to match  for about 1/3 of retail for new.

I wonder if guys bought them just on speculation that they would be the SE to have in 2009? (BTW, They are!) Now they are just trying to turn them to make a fast buck or two.

I have ridden a 2009 SERG and a 2003 RG several miles and both were
more comfortable than my 05 SEEG. I get a lot of turbulance behind
my batwing even with the lowers on. It seems to be coming around
the bottom of the batwing and up into my face.
The shape of the fixed fairing gave me a calm riding experence. NO
TURBULANCE!!!! All you need is the proper height windshield.
A fixed fairing bike will be my next ride.

I think that's the answer more times than not.

Mark,
Do you have either of these on your bike??....

Chrome Front Fork Air Baffle

Smoked Fairing Air Deflectors

If you don't they may help with the turbulence.

Ya FiredOOd, I have both on it and they helped but did not cure the
turbulance. Without them it was really bad.
I can put my hand on the side of my gas tank and feel the air rushing
up into my face. If I wear a shirt with a pocket on it anything in it will
be gone. Must have something to do with the shape of the batwing :nixweiss:
