HYD 6 spd side release cover
« on: December 22, 2008, 05:22:22 PM »

I read the other post on this and my question is I have an 06SEFB with the stock 5 spd with hyd. clutch.  I just bought a complete SE six spd transmission,  can I use my stock HYD 5spd case cover or do I have to buy one specifically for the 6spd?   Has anyone used this one Hydraulic Clutch Cover for Harley Davidson Transmission   ebay Item number: 170286461705

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Hydraulic-Clutch-Cover-for-Harley-Davidson-Transmission_W0QQitemZ170286461705QQihZ007QQcategoryZ35572QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Thanks for any help

Based on what I found several weeks ago, and assuming the Softail trap door is made the same as the touring trap door, you'd not be able to use that side cover from the eBay listing you cited.

Look at this comparison of the stock five speed side cover and the side cover for the SE 6 speed.  Five speed cover on that bottom.  Look specificially at that vertical casting extension coming down from the top center and compare that area of the casting to the same area in the six speed side cover.

Now look at the trap door for the six speed gear set (same gear set as used in the full tranny).  You can see why the trap door requires that area of the side cover to be relieved.  That pipe plug you see in the top center allows installation of the cross shaft for the shift forks.  That's not there in the five speed gear box.

Now see the part listed on eBay.  It's made like the five speed side cover and has the vertical extension down from the center of the casting.  It would work with the aftermarket six speed gear sets I've seen.  And any five speed gear set.  But it won't work with the SE six speed.
