Need a little assistance...
« on: December 23, 2008, 08:27:43 AM »

OK, sooooo I am really thinking that I would like to put a springer front end on my FXR...has anyone seen this done or is it possible? I am getting to the point of ordering all my parts for my winter work and the forks are giving me fits. At first I wanted wide fat forks but the more I think about it the more I want a springer front end, then equal sized front and rear spoked wheels and tires...like 4x21s or around that neighborhood. If this was a wood working project or a complete remodel of a house no problem but this is all new terrain for me and any help is welcome.

Check with springer-( http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?action=profile;u=4587 ) from the site here or at Big Boyz Head Porting ( http://www.bigboyzheadporting.com/ ). He has one on his FXR. If you call Big Boyz, you'll be talking to Bean. If springer's not there, he'll get him the message! ;)

Hey MrFeexit...I love my FXR just as it is and I wouldn't go that far to modify it in the way you are thinking; but that's just me. If you can put a springer front end on your FXR and it is what YOU want to do; then by all means...Go for it :2vrolijk_21: You have the picture of what you like in your head and if it can be done; which I'm sure it can...Then don't let anyone here stop ya from doing it. If the question is why, then I would say because you can and want to. Remember; no one else has to ride it but you and after all...That's what counts ain't it :2vrolijk_21:
Best to ya man and like I said; if ya decide to do it...Keep us up on how it goes because it would be interesting to see how it turns out...Now I ain't saying for you to do it; only that it's your baby so raise it as you like. You know the old saying, Another man's trash is another man's gold  :2vrolijk_21:

Some interesting information to be aware of regarding the conversion due to frame differences. I never did one, so you'd want to confirm that this is accurate. ;)

springer for a 1990 fxr

Looking for a springer front end for my 1990 fxr, but where ever I look, I see " for big twins with 1" neck bearings(except FXR, Dyna GlideĀ®)" Are springers just not available for fxr's? Thanks

The FXR and Dyna series chassis have a boxed tube frame that makes difficulties setting up fork stops for a springer. There are no comecially available spingers to use for this aplication I'm aware of. If you can fabricate, it may be possible, but you would need all the goodies in one spot to plan it out.

XEA I'm curious on this one I have a 93 FXR (P) It has a springer front end. I bought the bike with it on so I don't know diddly. Wondering if the (P) has something to do withit?

no, the P doesn't. a springer can be put on, the neck bearings are the same size, but you have to fab the fork stops, which will probably require a bit of welding

Elvis...thanks for posting that picture. That looks awesome! I know it can be done and I think the end result will be great looking. I appreciate the positive input and respect the opinion of those that wouldn't do it to their own bikes. I have never been one to just leave things alone. It's fine for some people to use things right out of the box...it's just not me. Thanks again.

To each their own Ed. Don't think you'll find many here that leave things as they are "right out of the box". Most make changes to IMPROVE the ride or performance. Adding a springer front end will do neither for these bikes. But a lil different you'll be with one I guess. Good luck.

Hey Ed...Your more than welcome and thanks for posting the topic up :2vrolijk_21:

If ya ever get this baby rollin; keep us up on how it goes...I would love ta see her up and rollin. The pic in my head after you first brought this topic up was basically a stock fxr with a springer front end; the fellow who did the one above is a little more radical than I can appreciate; but cool and interesting ta say the least...Best to ya...Blaine

OK so....project SpringerFXR is under way. I am taking a lot of pictures and will post some soon. I do have the new front end on and I have installed the new SS carb and it's all ready for the Kuryakyn Hypercharger which is sitting on the bench. Removed the straight Hooker Pipes and have the back wheel off. The wires for the lights are a bit confusing, since I am putting new lights on I have to get the wires out of the existing light housing....but Im to chicken to cut all the wires. I did mark each clip and photographed the front and back. BUT when it comes time to do the actual wiring....I may defer to the good old boys over at Rosholt Cycle. I mean the guy that owns it is named Chain for cripes sake...hell the other bike shop I go to is called Neinfeldts Cycle...the guys name is.... Charles Harley Neinfeldt. SO just based on their names they MUST know what they are doing. Any way, like it or not guys and gals, the Springer FXR will live.

Hey Hey...Spounds good man...I wasn't sure how quick you was gonna get on this baby but sounds like your hot on it. I wanna see this puppy when your done; so don't get er done and then keel over on us before you get pics posted  ;D  Seriously...I want to see this; she outta be bad to the bone  :2vrolijk_21:
