They are thinking the fuel pump is lazy and while one would think it would get you better gas mileage they are saying it would actually cause the opposite and say they have seen it on a few bikes.   Haven't run into it myself before, so I thought I would toss it out here..

Merry Christmas all

That's one of the strangest things I've ever heard.  Maybe someone can comment on how a "lazy" fuel pump would cause poor fuel mileage.  Let me guess.. the system compensating for slow fuel delivery by squirting more fuel.

Also, with these bikes chronically lean in stock form, I would think fuel economy would be a bit better.

The 110 runs so lean one would think they would get 50-60 mpg.

Who wants one of these stupid engines if they only get 30mpg & they're relative dogs in stock form?  I'm beginning to wonder myself..

The following is a cut and paste from the Harley site.  Since the MoCo would never exaggerate or lie, I have to assume that those reporting low 30's are just stuck in city driving mode.
----------------------------------------------------------
Engine 2                         Air-cooled, Twin Cam 110™

Miles per Gallon 5
ESPFI                             47.00 hwy / 32.00 city

5    Estimated from fuel economy tests on a sample motorcycle from the corresponding family conducted by Harley-Davidson under ideal laboratory conditions. Not all motorcycle models undergo fuel economy testing. Fuel economy and mileage may vary among motorcycle models within a family. Your mileage may vary depending on your personal riding habits, weather conditions, trip length, vehicle condition and vehicle configuration and other conditions. Break-in mileage may vary.

I only have a little over 600 miles on my SERG, but on the last tank, I got 39.8 mpg, and that was riding the twisties pretty aggressively.

update:

They checked the fuel pressure and all the associated items and ended up changing out the injectors.   I asked why, but really didnt get an answer other than this is what the area rep and tech services said to do.   The only notable item is that the rear plug was really black and the front was almost white.

Note there was not a change in part number for the injectors same part number replaced the injectors in the bike.

After 3 different rides 2 single and one ride double up the mileage has been in the range of 45 - 47 single and 37 - 38 double up.   A vast improvement from 30.65 single up.

The rear cylinder is now very hot though, as well as the bike is not running as smoothly as it was before.   Going to give it at least another tank before I mess with making it richer.

I've got over 7K miles on my 09 SEUC and 5K of it on one trip. The worst I've gotten is 31mgp and the best was 42mpg. It did the best at steady speeds under 60mph. When I was running tank tank on the highway at 80mph, it got 35 consisitantly. I was riding one up with as much gear as she'd carry.

I think maybee there should be a 07 ,08,and 09 mileage chart gearing and tire sizes have changed over them years. We could see if Harley's going right way. On my 07 I probbally average around 38 to 40 mpg riding 65-75 mph when I keep it in 5th under 60mph mileage goes over 40 mpg. My trailer don't hurt milage till windy and riding 70-80 mph. I went through a fresh full tank today after my new pipes and tuning and I got 37.4 mpg with excessively hard riding all day.  I rode about 20 miles on that tank while waiting for one of my friends to get his butt in gear for the day.  At the end of the day, his low fuel light was on and he showed 19 miles remaining on the tank while I showed about 60 miles left in mine.  That tells me that I was doing about 61 miles better than him through about 5 gallons of gas, which means he's getting about 12.2 mpg less than me or 25.2 mpg?  He's got an 08 SEUC and I have an 09.  I rode his briefly yesterday and he definitely has some sort of problem, likely the tuning.  I just realized now how bad his mileage is and I'm going to send him a note next to tell him what kind of mileage he is getting.

I went to the dealer for acr's due to the fact the heads for my update weren't here and now thats its spring that will wait till fall. They put a new fuel line in the tank due to factory one had a hole rubbed in it making a pressure loss and lower mpg supposely. We'll see if it makes a difference. ride safe jdo

When new, my 08 FLHTCUSE3 gave me upper 40s.  Now, at 11k miles, with Stage I SE air cleaner, RTDs, and SERT, get 40-42 combined city/hwy.
