Just filled up today. All town riding, less than 3 miles to work as a crow flys. I averaged 24 mpg! Wow! I almost get that with my truck, but not as much fun. It get real close to 42 out on the highway when I'm on the road. Sure makes a difference riding in town though. O' the bike is a 07 Ultra.

I only have a little over 600 miles on my SERG, but on the last tank, I got 39.8 mpg, and that was riding the twisties pretty aggressively.

Now, with over 2,000 miles I'm averaging just over 43mpg

You gotta be smart enough to understand the rules of motorcycling, and dumb enough to think the game's important.

It sounds like you are running stock then.  Once you have it tuned and lower that AFR, you burn more fuel.  Not much way around that.

A full tune may not result in across the board lowered afr tables. One map I have actually show some enleanenment at certain rpm's.

The enrichment table may be typically adjusted then each cylinders volumetric efficienecy (VE) modifed to reach a better combustion efficiency, not much mind you, these engines are still dinosaurs.
