Christmas Day Modifications
« on: December 25, 2008, 05:37:24 PM »

 :pepper:
Well its Christmas day and my initial mods are IN!

S/E air filter installed ....Check.
Chrome backplate installed....Check.
FullSac 1 3/4" baffles bolted in...Check
PowerCommander V installed and mapped.....Check
O2 Sensors capped......Check.
CAT cored.....Check (done previously)

Not a bad day's work.  Now all I need is a decent day to ride the beast and check this all out.
Will be getting it dynoed in about a week.
I'm a happy camper.  ;D

Why cap the O2 Sensors?  What does that do?

Don't think the Power Commander uses input from the 02 sensors.

Why cap the O2 Sensors?  What does that do?

Its part of the PC V installation. They use caps to bypass the O2 sensors. If you do the Autotune module, they give you a replacement set of sensors.

FYI  I didn't like just leaving the pigtail from the front O2 sensor flapping in the breeze, so I taped it up with electrical tape and then tucked it into the brace between the front forks.  Took both leads (unused O2 sensor pigtail and the capped wire from the old ECM) into a neat package and secured them using two black zip ties. Looks better and won't rattle around.

Also for those doing the SE Air cleaner backplate, you do NOT need to remove the gas tank as stated in the HD instructions. You can reach the two cap screws to remove the unused support plate easily with a reasonable length allen key.  I put 2 inches of blue painters tape on the bottom of the tank as a precaution against scraping the tank when loosening the cap screws. If you work carefully you can avoid the mess and hassle of removing the tank.

cheers!

The allen wrenches that I used were just long enough on the short end to make it work.  I didn't worry about it sitting tight against the top of the bracket, since that was the part that was being removed anyway, and I didn't have to worry about scratching it.  They really should supply an ample sized allen wrench with these kits.  Taking the tank off to do it would have been a real pain for such a simple procedure.  I think a lot of people have taken the tank off to do this.

No point in taking the tank off if you don't need to.

You did'nt state if you left the O2 sensors in the exhaust or if you plugged the O2 sensor ports at the exhaust. If you left them in the exhaust un-plugged the O2 sensors will go toast in no time. Removing current from the sensors shuts down heaters in the sensors which prolong their life. If you don't intend to use back to stock state then your good to go...  Just a little advice in case you didnt catch it..  :nixweiss:
