2008 FLHRSE to FLHXSE conversion
« on: December 31, 2008, 01:09:15 PM »

Newly registered to this site, but have been impressed by the wealth of information I've previously read.  Can't say enough about how good my SERK has been, 6,000 miles in 3 months no issues (haven't had the "performance upgrade" as Harley calls it done yet). I have had more compliments on the 105th anniversary color scheme than any other bike I've owned. There lies the problem...I wanted a Streetglide, but no SE available. I want to turn my RK into a Streetglide, has anyone added the "bat wing" fairing to a RK?  I've checked all the aftermarket removeable fairings offered, I'd rather use HD pieces. Anyone have any words of wisdom before I start buying parts?

It's the same frame.  So the choice is entirely yours.  Get a parts manual and take a big breath as you're biting off lots of changes.

You thinking of doing the Street Glide conversion with or without a radio in the fairing?  Adding the radio might bring other changes in the mix you might not have considered.

With the radio, speakers, temp, gauge, etc.  Everything my RK doesn't have.  Tentatively planning on swapping the gas tank also to put the speedo and tac in the fairing.  The only thing that worries me is electrical, I'm a mechanic but no electrician.

To do it all you're going to be changing harnesses.  So in the end it actually all will become a plug and play.

That's what I was hoping for.  I've seen the harness inside of the fairing by reading magazine tech articles, but it seems like the wiring would need to be replaced to the forks. I need the parts manuals for the FLHX and my RK, till now just been investigating the feasability. Everyone I ride with thinks I'm nuts to try this, but I'm determined as long as I can attain everything prior to doing any work. Wish MoCO would sell me the factory painted pieces for the FLHTCUSE, but no dice. Can't find too many painters nearby that want to tackle the gold metal flake.

Thanks for the replies

I would keep your RK a RK and buy you a RG,EG, SG or UC. You will be sinking a pot full of money you won't recoup unless your like me and never plan on selling it. I would rather have a SERK and a plain streetglide then a SERK made into a SG. Good luck on your decisions. God Bless!

Never plan on getting rid of this ride! What's in the stable, stays in the stable. 8) Recouping what I spend isn't my goal. Have you ever seen a 105th anniversary FLHXSE? Me either, might make mine a one of a kind, and if all I'm doing is replacing parts they can always be changed back. I just end up with some extra FLHX parts, and who doesn't have spare HD parts in their garage?

It would have been easier to buy an SEUC and stip off the stuff you dont want and make it into a SG....

From what I recall, the SG and the UC use the same harness.

Had there been an Anniversary UC available I would have purchased the UC and done just that... But financing was a limited time stupid low offer I couldnt turn down... and I had to take what they had in stock...   :-\

I had the same thoughts as you but bit the bullet and traded the Annie for the '09 SEUC Silver Bullet, couldn't be happier, but I'm with ya on the comments from others, I had many many compliments on the  "08 SERK Annie how good it looks!  Best of luck.

 :drink:

BTW, I have a Merlins horseshoe Clock for the key lock if you're going to keep it stock.

Thanks for all the replies, I appreciate any and all information. wbrinker how bad a bullet was it from the 08' Annie to the 09' SEUC? Dealer had an 08' SEUC Annie 2 months after I got mine, wife nearly shot me when I toyed with the idea of trading! Only thing she doesn't like about the RK is the seat....she's got no junk in the trunk so to speak! New Sundowner's gotta go on before spring.

the harley touring manual includes all the various wiring harness drawings.

what you have to do is make a chart of which harness parts are on each bike - and purchase ALL the harness bits for the flhx that are not on the rk.

you probably can have a tin made for where the spedo is on the rk tank and keep your tank. that way the only part you need to have painted is the outer fairing.

enough cash will cure anything like this. look in the roadking section and see simalar projects.

good luck and post your results.

This was my answer to having a SERK conversion. I purchased the bat wing from Drangon Fly which offered the radio, 6X9 speakers and very easy to install. I also added XM radio to the unit, which really made for some nice tunes..The new hard bags came from H.D.

Get ready to get your check book out for these upgrades. Bat wing $1,900.00, bags $900.00, custom paint for both $1,500. Now here's the best part, I traded the SERK in last week with the origional equipment. My dealer did not want the bike with the upgrades on it... The add on's have been added to all the other take off's throughout the years.

Bought a 09 SERG last week....
