looking for opinions
« on: January 01, 2009, 07:16:08 PM »

I am thinking of selling my 05 SEEG   ...   haven't rode it but a couple hundred miles since I got my SERG in July

question   ...   does it help or hurt to have motor work ( 127 hp ) and a Baker 6 speed

looks stock except I added the street glide fender light and a JVC 5000 stereo/nav

                                                                                                      thx

No one answer.  Help or hurt will depender on the prospective buyer.  It certainly won't help the full value of what you paid for the upgrades.  In fact won't help very much at all in terms of resale value.  If there is a help it'll be in the extra temptation laid before someone who might other sit the fence in his or her decision or otherwise walk away.  Of course you could just as easily have someone tempted but decides against the bike because of concerns about performance upgrades.  Impacts on reliability or how harshly it might have been ridden because of the presence of a bigger motor.  That's why those kinds of changes are done for your benefit at the time.  They're a crap shoot when it comes time to sell.

I am on the same page as Don on this one.
I do not think it will help or hurt depending  on the buyer.

The educated buyer may realize the original nav system was crap and  if can convince the potenial buyer the engine build was done right w/ documentation,
I think you have a wash.

I would have to agree with Twolanerider.  I would want the upgrades, but would like to have them done myself.  Additionally if you watch Ebay or look at dealer offerings you get very little $$ return if any on upgrades.  I think add ons if possible should be removed and sold seperately.  Unfortuneately for you, your upgrades are permanant.
You may want to have a dealer sell your machine on consignment or at the very least get financing for a prosepective buyer of you provide.  Nice bike. Good luck.

FWIW......I think you should keep the SEEG.  I'm not a SEEG fan, but I am a fan of the baseline 103cid and the old style frame.  Plus.......it's always nice to have a back-up ride....just in case.   :2vrolijk_21:

They're just bikes; nothing more.  If you see one you like better and need to dump the old one to get the new one dump the old one.  All depends on how much you really jones for the new one.  This bike went away when I fell in lust with the SEEG.  Had no inclination whatsoever to sell this bike.  Loved everything about everything I'd done to it.  Knew I'd hang on to it for a long long time.  Until I saw the red SEEG.  Ooops.  Aside from that involuntary 72 hour hold with the very nice people with all the jello right after this bike went away there was no trauma nor regret at all.

I bought a complete motor and kept the old one, if I ever sell I just put in the old motor and sell the 127. 140HP is lots of fun though but breaks a few parts. It's a lot cheaper that way than hot rodding a stock motor that you will never get your money out of. Besides once you start with up grades you keep going, 95, then a 103 then bigger cam etc etc. One thing about a complete motor everything matches and you have a warranty.

Excellent points.  It has been my experience, twice now, to hot rod a stock motor, and though it is expensive....it is alot of fun.  The anticipation is one of the best parts, but there is nothing like having it all come together and finally riding it home.  There is nothing like the sheer enjoyment of riding something that you either built yourself or had custom built based on your requirements, or in my case.....a little of both.  To me.....THAT's where I get my money's worth.  To me, these bikes are my recreation, so they carry much more value than just money.

I 'll get the build specs when I get to my office and post them   ...

my intention was to keep the integrity of the bike with correct serial numbers

while still having an enjoyable ride   ...   I've been running this engine for several

years with no problems   ...   and like others thought I would never sell it ( and

I may not )   ...    but when I saw the first pics of the SERG ------BAM!!!

now I'm wondering should I take my new bike up  a notch ( like maybe 124 )

or  as you say keep that motor and buy a 124

I'd probably never put it back in anyway

                                                                  thx

HeHe!!! Except you can't buy a 124! Only engines you can buy for '06 Dyna and all '07's & up are Jim's 120 and Jim's 131. That's it! Otherwise you need to build an engine from HD cases! ;)
