Remote alarm system
« on: January 03, 2009, 03:45:21 AM »

I still have the remote pager that I bought for my last bike.  Is my 09 set up to be able to use it directly or do I  have to upgrade to the Siren II system to be able to use the remote pager?

I think I just found the answer in a few different threads.  Looks like I need the addon to get it to work.

Yep, you have to upgrade to the Smart Siren II system to use the pager. Unfortunately, the MoCo thinks it is necessary to squeeze an extra $50-$70 out of us to install the right siren on the CVO bikes.

How often has that remote been a help? With the FOB in place, what else is going to happen? Just speaking out of ingnorance as the bike is never far from me when riding. Otherwise its in the 3 car garage squeezed in between the autos.

Last year (2008), I rode my bike to work.  My pager started vibrating.  I ran outside to find some idiot sitting on my bike.  I had some choice words for him, which didn't seem to phase him at all.  He wanted to ask me all kinds of questions and tell me that someday he was going to buy a motorcycle.  He was one of those people that just didn't take a hint and you had to be blunt with him. I had to tell him straight out that I only came out because he triggered my alarm and I didn't have time to talk to him and that I do not want him near my bike again or the police will be called.  He continued on his way walking down the street, totally unphased by any of it.  The idiots walk among us.

Other than that, I set it if I park it to go into a store like a Walmart or if I'm at a rally and taking off on foot, or staying at a hotel for the eve.  I've had a bike stolen before, and it's nice to have some sort of early detection in place.  I think I'm actually more worried about the occasional idiot that decides to sit on your bike and the bike ends up on the ground.

How often?  Every night I'm in a hotel and the bike is on the parking lot.

Nothing like sneaking up on some fool and introducing them to "Smith & Wesson" when they least expect it. :)

That aims me at a question, but I'm going to post it as a new topic...regarding guns and bikes.

Can't believe you were so patient as to actually have some kind of discussion.  Pretty sure the first words out of my mouth would have been "get the phuk off my bike."
