be careful when you install it..... DO NOT try to tighten down the nut on the back of it that holds it in the slot in the bracket.  If you over tighten it, you'll break the plastic neck, don't ask me how I know this ................  :'(

Xactly...What I did  :(  :(  :( ....Thanks man  :2vrolijk_21: ;D

Just got of the phone with parts dept at HD Mobile. Asked if enricher cable PN: 29229-88B was in stock? She told me no but a BUNCH were due in any day and they normally have bunches in stock but a BUNCH of folks came in the past few weeks and bought them all. I asked her did she want me to tell her why so many folks were buying them? She said yes. I told her because they all break so easy and they are pieces of S^$T....She laughed and said I wasn't the first to express that opinion..............Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh..........But, I do feel a bit better now :2vrolijk_21:  ;D

Try the J&P catalog.  They have choke knobs and covers for the plastic ones (four pages of them from various manufacturers, mild to custom):

http://www.jpcycles.com/groups.aspx?Page=1&LID=529d1931-290a-45a4-a551-a515dbe13ecb&DID=0c35560d-dc95-4e1c-9c4e-fcba320bc2cc

I like this one, myself, of course I'm kinda conservative:

Not sure that works on his '00 Mike.
"Fits all models with choke cables having a 10-32 thread, including all 1980-89 5-speed FLT, FLHT, FLHS and FXR."

And all the rest are just covers. ;)

Went back through the thread--had forgotten that Blaine already checked J&P.  Still, if his knob is threaded, I'd get a 10-32 nut and see if it uses the same thread as the J&P unit.  And it seems like the set screw models wouldn't care what thread was on the cable--or maybe I don't understand the situation.  On the other hand, checking this on another forum tells me that this is a common problem and the HD part is only something like $12 so maybe that's the way to go.

I guess I'm lucky to have never broken mine.

Mike...May be a little problem on my part in my explaining what I have been dealing with. I have had no problem finding choke knobs; they are a dime a dozen.

Picture the knob attached to the cable which then is enclosed in the plastic threaded sleeve collar with the plastic tightening nut to the plastic threaded collar which is mounted in the slot of the cable bracket. Behind the bracket slot is a metal type lock washer with a metal nut behind it; then the cable enclosed by plastic/rubber continues to the carb.

When tightening the plastic nut; it allows you to pull the knob allowing the cable to come out and lock in place for normal warm up. If not tight enough when pulling the knob out; cable will not lock in place and you have to hold it out.

So....my dumb a$$ decides to tighten the metal nut from the rear of the bracket which puts more pressure on the front plastic nut than it can stand; causing the plastic threaded collar of which the front plastic and rear metal nut are mounted on to break.

So, my issue has never been the knob; rather, the entire enricher cable assy as a whole unit...Seems to me if the threaded collar the plastic and metal nuts are mounted on was made of some type of metal alloy; then when over tightening occurs you would just tighten till ya couldn't tighten any more rather than the collar breaking....But, we know why the MOCO makes then out of plastic don't we? So all the other dummies like me can go back down and buy another $12.00 piece of S^*T and then hope ya don't overtighten again

In other words; if ya tighten correctly; they work great...If not....They be pieces of S^*T...Ta quote HUBBARD; "There endeth the lesson"  ;D

Whew..............That typeing was a lot of work in itself  ;D

Oh...went the $12.00 way to fix; as fas I can tell, that be the ONLY way  ;D

Sorry to put you through all that explaining, Blaine.  Like I said, I guess I'm lucky mine hasn't broken yet--I've never paid that much attention to it, except to remove it from the bracket behind the coil once.  And I hardly ever pull it out and twist-lock it to start the bike.

On the contrary; no need to be sorry;

I learned the hard way so just wanted to make sure everyone who hasn't been through this or is not quite as knowledgable like I wasn't; doesn't have to go through this if they don't need too  :2vrolijk_21:

SO... now the fun begins; looks like I gotta pull the carb off to get the cable out to replace  ::)  ;D

that sounds right ....... I broke mine last June............ I was putting on a Mikuni and was going to use the stock choke cable, broke it putting it back on..... turns out I had some other problems with the carb kit ..... wrong parts were sent..... they sent me the breather bolts for a TC

anyways, I had to take the carb off to change out the choke cable ........ seems like to me, I had the Mikuni on the bike twice, and the stock one on and off the bike twice that same day ..... needless to say, I did get tired of changing out the carbs.

I am running the stock carb now, but will be changing it when I do my build.  I THINK I have all the right parts for the carb kit now ..... I'll find out in a week or so

you pretty much got it right about how that cable gets broken .... and I don't know of any replacement for it, other than the HD part

Believe me....The thought crossed my mind...Bro-Law has one on his 89 FXR; seems so much simpler.
