Just wondering if the MoCo  cuts back production on CVO's  like they do the regular production models when sales slip. In previous years have they done this.
 If so will this make the CVO's harder to find and instead of producing 3000 SERG's will this mean that only 2000 will be produced. After submitting to the website poll question about the color of your bike I was  wondering how many of each color is produced or does it vary also depending on orders.

I'm sure they'll cut back on CVOs as well.  Previously, everybody had to wait for their CVO and there was usually a back up list just in case the buyer backed out at the last minute.

I've never known a CVO to sit on a floor unless it was just waiting to be picked up......at least not here in Nor Cal.  What's going on this year is all new.

I'm sure it depends on the model.  The local dealer has all of his '09 CVO touring bikes sold/spoken for, meanwhile the Fatbobs and Springers just pile up in back.  So they may end up building more touring bikes than they planned and less of the Fatbobs and Springers.  Supply and demand.

Since production is substantially lower this fiscal year, there will be less CVO's as well. Generally, this should, with exceptions, not have an impact on the availability of a specific color. With a little patience, the dealer should be able to get the bike and color you want to have, if you order before march. Production cuts, btw, are not the same for each line or model.

True enough. In my area the touring bikes are gone but the fatbob sits.......and it is a wicked looking unit too.

Louis- do they have to be ordered by March, is this the deadline.

I think the uncertainty in the economy and such has a lot to do with what we are seeing in the motorcycle
industry. Most people are a little hesitant on buying luxury items without knowing if they will have a job or not, thus more bikes are sitting on the floors. This is for the left over 2008 and 2009's. My take is, if Harley didn't introduce the new frame changes and such for the Touring line, you would see them sit around for a while as well.

To note: Honda, BMW, Victory, Kawasaki etc.. are all having difficulty selling bikes. I think the most impacted Motorcycle company of 2009 will be Indian, as they may not have the reserves to hold out as long as the others. Indian has entered, or should I say reentered the Motorcycle market at a bad time in history and looking to sell their bikes in the lower to mid $30's - they may exit the market before they sell their first 750 motorcycles.

I`d say if u havnt ordered by march ur gonna get/wait for the next model year!

Not at all. '09 models are available until the '10's are presented. Harley has the model change most often late June or early July, although it may be later this year. To be certain to get a specific model/color, I think ordering before March is a good idea.

Last weekend a few of us at a Sacramento dealerships were discussing Indian's reentry into the market was very bad timing due to state of economy and the conciseness was, as you stated, Indian probably wont survive year one. I'm curious if the 750 motorcycles you stated is a known number of bikes they are producing for 2009. We have an Indian Dealership here in Sacramento and they still have a dozen new Indians on the floor left over when they went belly a few years ago. I'm glad i didn't buy Indian MC Stock..

As far as I know, Indian does not yet have a dealer in California. They have a different business model than HD does. HD has to answer to it's shareholders. Stock price, which is not the same as profitability, is a driving force behind decisions being made at HD. IMC is owned by a privately held equity firm. They appear to be in this for the long haul.

I believe the 2009 production number of 750 is listed on their website or in some interview, publication etc. I've read. I'm sure this is the number Indian stated they were going to produce in 2009 but unsure of the source - let me do some digging and get back to you.

Verification of source - Indian Website. 750 motorcycles in 2009. This number is stated in other locations on the web but its better to get it from the horses mouth. 

First Press Release magazine article titled “How to Spend it”
