golf carts
« on: January 05, 2009, 05:55:49 PM »

I am thinking about getting a golf cart but dont know much about them. Is there brands that I should stay away from or try to get. I looked at 2003 Club Car with aluminium frame 48volt with canopy and they wanted 1650.00 for it. That sounds like a good price but I am not sure. Any help would be apreciated.

Thanks

Not sure about your area (depends on how many golf courses there are in a given area).  We generally pay $1500 for the 5yr. old carts and $2000 for the three year old carts.

Will you be using it for golf or some other use?

We have both a Club Car/electric and a Yamaha/gas cart on the farm.

The Nieces and Nephews have beat the hell out of both of them. In fact they beat the Club Car so bad that the top had to be removed. They only know one speed...WFO

The only problem has been the batteries on the Club Car. They are not cheap.

There are a few main distributors of used golf carts in Maryland. Can get one 3 years old for around $1250.

I've had a gas-powered E-Z GO for several years. Use it to go back and forth to the dock loaded with people and coolers. Still amazed at where these things will go and how durable they are. Never a bit of trouble out of it.

I used to work on golf carts for a living so I thought I would throw my $.02 in here.
I like Club Cars aluminum frame, it is the strongest of the three major brands.
I would stay away from electrics. Battery maintenence and replacement cost are a bitch
Yamaha makes their own engines but it ain't nuthin special
Club Car uses a real tuff Kawasaki engine (the same as John Deere gator)
Ez-Go uses an overhead cam two cylinder Robin engine that is real smooth.
Most Dealers sell 3 or 4 year old lease returns pretty reasonable

I have a Club Car Pioneer and love it. Like OJ says that frame and the suspension are first rate. Unlike some carts it also has brakes on all four and a locker on the rear axle to handle the dirt when needed. Doc

Not sure and there are some really quick, exotic carts in Eastern WA at the Sunland Estates near the gorge and Quincy on the Columbia...especially on the holiday weekends! I mean bodacious carts. :drink:
