CVO 110 exhaust
« on: January 05, 2009, 08:55:57 PM »

I just purchased a new CVO ultra classic, 2007 and am looking to change the exhaust.  It currently has a thunderheader 2 in to 1 with a race tuner, and I would like to switch it back to true duals.  I am considering either the Rineharts or Vanc and Hines ovals.  I will have to replace the head pipes as well.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Yes, you will have to replace the entire system.  The Thunderheader is a one-piece item.  Either RH or V&H seem to work equally well, depends on what you like better.

Check these guys out. They make excellent quality, good performing exhaust systems! :2vrolijk_21:

I use their 2:1, but I've heard good things about their duals and mufflers too! ;)

That takes you to '07/'08 duals, but you can search around their site from there.

I don't think the '09 Headpipes are out yet. But their mufflers work with the stock Headpipes. And Chip was able to mount the FatCat (2:1) to his '09 as well. ;)

HeHe!!! And since everyone thinks you're a cop, take a look at their "Police Interceptor" Mufflers (good mufflers!). ::) ;D

i notice that you say that you are new to dressers. so dont take this wrong.
before you go to true duals you need to know that they have poor, or very poor, performance at slow speeds - like pulling away from a stop sign, or passing a truck without shifting down.
the best performance is from a exhaust that has the two pipes connected between the front cylinder and the back. either a two into one or something like the factory exhaust with a crossover pipe. also note that the stock exhaust provides MORE power than the stock exhaust on all other factory bikes. the touring exhaust has more VOLUME and that translates into more torque. many folks change exhaust based on "looks" and then spend lots of bux trying to get it to run as well as it did to start with - its a better plan to get exhaust that works properly and try and get it to look good. there is no point to a really pretty bike that cant get out of its own way because the mechanicals are not proper.
sert is the best way to tune the bike to various exhaust systems. if you really want dual mufflers AND performance there are systems like d&d that are really a two into one with a fake left pipe so it looks proper but has MUCH more power output.
also note that cranking 110's up to high rpm is probably a really bad idea - there can be issues.
later

remember - there is a BIG difference between what "looks cool" and what "goes fast" and what "drives good on city streets". for the most part those are three completely different & mutually exclusive things.

I run Vance and Hines True Duals with their Oval Mufflers on my bike. The sound is good and I have not noticed any seat of the pants decrease in performance. But I don't ride like some of the guys on this site. This bike also has a SERT, Hi Flo, air cleaner Decked Heads which have been Ported and Polished, a SE 251 Cam and Adjustable push rods.

I've got V&H True Duals, V&H Oval mufflers, SE Air cleaner and SERT.  No other modifications to the engine and It's dyno'd to 90hp/108TQ.  My SEUC runs fine at slow speeds, highway speeds, and in between...'course I don't race it either.

Yeah, I have seen the D and D guys before and am considering getting a quote from them.  I am hoping to find something slightly used on ebay.  Thanks for the help.

I appreciate the input and you are right.  My heritage had a springer exhaust system with duals on it and I liked the look, so want to go back to that.  I also had the crossover pipe on the header system and should probably do the same.  I assume Vance and Hines or Rinehart sells header pipes with the crossover system?  Thanks again.

What are your thoughts on the whole horsepower and torque thing on the true duals, 2 in to 1 pipes, or the header pipes with the crossovers on the 110" motor?

FWIW: I just went thru getting a set of D&D Fat Cat w/Big Boar Quiet baffles. Cheapest place I found em was at www.hdpipes.com.  Eric bet everyones price and had em to me in less than a week.

D&D FatCats !!ROCK!!...

Nice, agressive Formula 1 sound... Gobs of power... and they have a really mean look, especially in black ceramic. Had one on my '05 FLTR with a 98ci, high-compression build, HP TB, CNC ported&polished heads, .615 gear drive cam. 99hp& 109tq out of 98ci. It was sweet!
