I would guess that you'll get decent performance out of the switch you are making. That crossover does throw off a lot of heat. You might want to try to heat shields that mount just under the seat. They come stock on my 09 SE Ultra and I don't seem to have any issues with the heat right now, but then again I'm in PA and the temperatures are in the 20's. Plus, they redesigned the routing of the exhaust on the '09, so that may be helping me also. Anyway, they are available from Harley and I've seen a lot of aftermarket versions out there. I even saw one company making them in black leather (with or without studs), but I don't have a clue who it was that had those now.
I only rode my last bike, with the stock crossover, for about 200 miles before I had the exhaust changed to true duals, but I very distinctly remember the day I was stupid enough to ride in shorts and got stuck in a traffic jam. I thought my right leg was going to be well done and ready for eating.
