LED lights for rear of 2007 SE Ultra tour pack
« on: January 07, 2009, 10:42:20 AM »

I have done some searching on this site with not much luck as far as options those of you have done to the rear of your bikes for additional lighting.  I do not necessarily want to do an LED brake light, but am looking for options to add some other LED lights to the back of the bike, running and brake.  I did see one photo of a guy who put an LED bar light on the back of his leather tour pack that looked good, but wondered what else anyone else has done.  I like the spoilers you can put on the saddlebags, but cannot do that to the tour pack since it is leather.  HD also makes a luggage rack LED light, but it will not fit the rack on the leather tour pack either.  I would love to see some photos of what others have done or some sites that have nice LED light strips.  The previous owner of the bike installed a pouch in the rear of the tour pack and the bolts stick out the back (looks bad) and I even thought about having some type of small brackets made to attach to them and then mount LED strip lights on to those.  Let me know or see anything you can.  Thanks.

Hi robonel,
I know you mentioned you didn't want LED lights on your Tour Pak
but every style of light or light bar is going to have positive and negative points. In reality you can do just about anything you want to these bikes if you have the time, money and desire.
I can't speak for every CVO Ultra owner but with my 2006 and it's leather Pak I chose not to carve it up to add traditional light bars etc. I went with the LED light bar based on positive reviews from others here about ease of install, brightness and good customer service from Custom Dynamics. The LED bar can be easily removed without damage to the Pak (hopefully) and it has a low current draw compaired to standard bulbs so the battery would not be overworked.
Check out the website for some ideas, maybe they can do a custom light set for you in any configuration you want?

What light did you install and do you have any photos?

Although this thread shows my "Stealth" LED brake light, there are some other options shown in the second link.

I know you're new here but:  :worthless:

We need to see some pictures to see what has already been done. Are what you're telling us is that you don't want the Custom Dynamics strip?

Here is a shot of my Custom Dynamics LED light bar. It has a clear lens but glows red as a running and brake light. It is between the two antennas just under the Tour Pak lid for visibility to cars or trucks tailgating the bike.

That looks really good and is pretty much what I am trying to accomplish.  The bike is being shipped right now so I do not have a clear photo of the back of the tour pack, I just remember the two bolts from seeing it at the dealer.  Thanks, Any mounting suggestions or was it self explanatory?  Did you just drill a hole in the tour pack for the wiring?

Yes, the custom dynamic strips should work fine, I need to get the bike here to see what I can do with it.  I am going to install the George Anderson relocation bracket for the tour pack, so I will see what I can do after that.  All of these links and photos have been great and I have printed off a bunch of good ideas.  Thanks.

The LED bar has a sticky 3M tape on the back so all you need to do is use an alcohol wipe on the pak to remove any dirt or leather treatment then the bar will stick to the leather. Be careful because it sticks so well you won't be able to move it after contact. There are small wires coming out of one end but I just ran them up the pak into the interior and connected them to a plug inside the pak. I got the plug parts to put on the LED wires at the Harley dealer. Some here have drilled a small hole to run the wire inside but I chose not to drill the leather.

Thanks for the information, I have had a lot of responses and your look is one of the better ones.  It looks pretty simple to install.  Custom dynamics looks like they have about a million things to choose from one way or another.  Now I just have to decide exactly what I want to do.  Thanks again.

Another item needs to be considered in the install, you will need a current balancer for the difference in power requirements of the LEDs. This is due to running different types of lights. :2vrolijk_21:

I have the same light on my 07 and it really shows up good. Do you really need a current balancer? If so where do you get one? Seems there are quite a few that used the same light and first time someone mentioned a currrent balancer.

I believe the item is a "load equalizer".  Its only needed if the LED strip functions as turn signals as well, and then only if the stock turn signals are being changed to LEDs as well.  Custom Dynamics has this item.
