to gremlush                              my head replacements for my 110-07 ultra are in & i have ordered the 18190-08 valves  & will have  4-5 angle valve cuts done . if i have heads milled .040 is the valve to piston clearance o.k.?  i will be using the h.g. that comes in the 0905 kit.   will my low rpm torque be lower with this larger valve?  could you tell me how much head should be milled to get 9.8 c.r.  im new at this comp. stuff       hope gunsmoke isnt on now.   will be using s.e. 251 cam.

thanks dewey you may not be an expert but you sound like one to me . i have my heads at a shop now & waiting for oversize valves to come in. bike is at a dealer 60 miles away from head shop. bike is still together so i havent a way of claying the clearance .  hoping someone here has done this & can tell me clearance is o.k.  will mill .030 from heads & use .030 cometic gasket you advised .  what about the exhaust valve should i leave it as is or is there enough meat to do 4 angle cuts on it. thanks for the great info.          i may not be good but i want to be fast.  ron

You should frankly be working with a head work expert on this. Either you know how to port, machine, revalve and modify heads, and are tooled for it, or you're not. These questions you're asking are good for general knowledge. But who'd consider doing this themselves when they've no knowledge on what should and shouldn't be done, or if you don't know what you expect the overall engine combo to be before you start? My advice, GO SEE AN EXPERIENCED ENGINE BUILDER. Discuss your goals with him and have him do your heads. You can put the top end back together yoursef if ya want to, but save the headwork for an expert!!! ;)

Gotcha! Like I said, all great info from Dewey! Not for the do-it-yourselfer. From Cometic's site:

Twin Cam All Models, Head Gasket 4" - .030" Spring SteelTwin Cam All Models, Head Gasket 4" - .030" Spring Steel; Stock Code C9725;  Year 99-Up; Package Quantity 2; Price $43.30

I did the selection for you from here. You can play around with other gaskets there. ;)

Hoist is right. Find someone that knows what they are doing. About the ex. valves ,get new ones ,stock,as yours will be 'pitted' . Too much heat. Mine were pitted worse than any valve I had ever seen with 5000 miles on them ! There will be plenty of seat to cut on the exhaust side. Make sure you are in the tolerance for valve stem protusion 1.990 - 2.024. Same as EVO's and 1999-2004 TC.   Tuner in MN.  Watertown ,MN.  forget his name ,but one of the best { world class tuning ?} I think. I grew up in MN. on a farm , joined the ARMY when I was 17 to get out of there !!!! Thought for sure I would go back in a bag.  Cornfield county, yep ahum , lets go fishin for some bullheads, uftu  Dewey

Dewey,

Would the tuner in Watertown, MN possibly be Mike Lofgren who used to do tuning with Mike Roland?  If it is Doug, he has posted on this website as uglydouogly in the Intake/Exhaust Forum.

I will tell you that if you use thin head gaskets, mill the heads, and stay with your stock cast pistons, you WILL have to spread the valve pockets .100" each.
Mike Roland owns World Class Tuning.
Doug Lofgren can be reached at Silverback Motors also in Minn.

Does Rochester ,MN. still have that 'funny' hospital where the patience run around outside and hide behind the trees ? When I was a kid ,we would drive by there and I would laugh ,now I am one of those people ! Dewey
