Seat was advertised as Leather with Buffalo insert but is not
« on: January 11, 2009, 08:08:44 PM »

Looking at the CVO pamphlet under FEATURES, second column, third "NEW" item down, it states "One-piece two-up custom leather seat with buffalo hide inserts.  I've had mine off and as I suspected, its "pleather/Naugahyde/vinyl...but not leather!  WTFO, did the MoCo try to pull something on us to save a few bucks...on a frigging 32K bike?  I've had "Screamin' Eagle seats before and they were LEATHER.  Don't get me wrong, I love this bike but the issues with the quality of the bodywork/paint and seat being sewed crooked where it meats (or should I say doesn't meet) the console really make me wonder if they have any quality assurance people employed at all.

The shop ordered another seat and saddle bag (cracked) left tank emblem (pulled away on the aft spear) and will be ordering a new tank (dented and partially filled prior to paint) and outer fairing (hazy/cloudy area front upper where they tried to buff out a sag in clear).

Did anyone else out there get a leather seat or did we all get taken?  :'(

Keep the take offs and you've got a spare bike.

Yep, already got a few boxes full of the parts I've "upgraded".  I don't think they'll let me keep the saddle bag, tank and fairing...they'd look too cool othe wall in my garagmahal :orange:  If they let me keep the seat, I'll have it re-covered with gell-pad inserts.

I believe you will find that the "leather" seat from Harley is similar to the typical "leather" seat from most auto companies.  The actual part that touches your butt may be leather, but the other parts are vinyl.

BTW, the $32k was just for the Harley experience.  If you want quality with that, you're on your own.  At least you can take some satisfaction in knowing that you aren't alone, there have been major quality issues over the years with everything from chrome and paint, to electronics and heated grips, and of course the beta version engines ('07/'08 110's).

Despite all the quality issues over the years, I find this a bit off-putting. I've got that brochure and it does indeed say it's a leather seat with a Buffalo insert. Isn't that false advertising?

I thought I was gettin "Imitation vinyl" (leather). What gives HD?  I had to fork out $400 for in the past to move up to high class Corinthian. I guess I should have ordered the Rolls edition..... :confused5:

On any HD I have ever owned, never was a seat all real leather at stock. had to go custom for that.

Taken at face value, yes it is false advertising.  However, take a look on that brochure for the small print that basically says that anything they say is subject to change on a whim and at any time, or some such BS.  Corporate lawyers get the big bucks to make sure their employers never put anything in writing that they can't weasel out of.  At least the auto folks say "leather seating surfaces", not "leather seats", and most in fact have a footnote that explains the sides and other parts that don't touch your body are not leather.  By the way, what the heck is a buffalo insert anyway?  Is that just the name of a pattern, or is it a piece of real buffalo hide?  See, stuff like that will drive you nuts if you believe everything you read in a sales promotion.

Try calling customer service with your brochure in hand and read them the part about the "leather seat with Buffalo insert", then advise them that your bike was obviously misbuilt and you want your leather and buffalo seat ASAP.  Let us know what the MoCo genius on the phone has to say.

Okay... yeah... I knew that... I work in the technology business... software development... same song different verse...

I think I'll pass. I don't wanna get my BP up without good reason today, LOL!

I'm gonna avoid trying to answer the question, "What is a Buffalo insert anyway?" on the grounds that my answer might get me booted off the forum.
