Battery tender
« on: September 15, 2005, 04:24:39 AM »

I had a battery tender I used on my 99 Heritage once in a while to keep the battery up. I had a quick disconnect attached to the battery and it came out by the saddle bags. Should I put one on the 04 SEEG? Dont want to screw nothing up. Lots of electronics on this beast. Thanks for the help. [smiley=cool2.gif]

CVOwner,
I put a tender on my 05 SEEG, almost a year, no problem.  I set my security system even in the garage.   The tender give me peace of mind the bike will start after a week of sitting.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Absolutely - the more electronics on the bike, the more you need a battery tender due to the extra current drain even when the bike is not running.  A battery will self-discharge even with nothing connected to it, and if you add the small drain from the security system, the memory in the ECM, the radio, etc., etc., it won't take long to discharge the battery enough to shorten its' life.  The best way to make a battery last is to always keep it fully charged - if it's allowed to sit very long in a partially charged state, it will permanently lose some of its' capacity.  I personally plug mine in any time I won't be riding for more than a day.  Using this method, my last bike still had the original battery after 6 years.  The average life of a lead/acid battery is about 4 years.

As soon as I convince momma to ship my sorry butt to Hawaii (one way), I'll be able to ride every day  [smiley=1syellow1.gif].  Unfortunately, here in the "greater" Chicago area, mother nature has other ideas  [smiley=sad2.gif].  I'm looking for an enclosed cab and snow tires, or maybe one of those conversions to make your bike into a snow mobile with rear belt and front skis.

I've had one on my 04 SEEG and plug it in every day.  Used one on my last Ultra Classic for several years.  I found on the ultra Classic that once I started using it regularly, that I'd get a couple extra years out of the battery.

I have an o4 SEEG, wife has 02 FB, when we are not riding and the bikes are in the garage, the tender is attached.  No problems!

CVOwner ya man, put it on!! If you want I'll post some pics to where the unit fits nice and the plug hangs out through the large frame plate behind the rear cylinder. Plug doubles for a 12v supply for heated clothes for me [smiley=bigok.gif]

MyCVO,

Most definitely post any and all pics. I have the Battery Tender Plus, and just ordered the pigtail with the 3amp fuse, it should be there when I get home, I work away from home and only get to come home one day a week so I need to ride first, add to bike later. I work the night shift so I'm up all night anyway. Thanks ML [smiley=cool2.gif]

CVOwner.. I didnt mean to say that the unit is mounted on the bike but that the connector is and is just attached to the battery and the end slids out a existing large hole in the plate.  Dont know why the attachment didnt get on this post I'll try again [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
