V&H Monster Ovals
« on: January 13, 2009, 06:12:42 PM »

Hello all.  I've been a quite member on here for awhile and just sold my 2005 SE and bought a 2009 SERG.  I've read everything on here about the exhaust issues and I'm leaning toward the Vance & Hines Power Duels with the Monster Ovals.  I question if they will fit with the saddle bag extensions and called V&H and the tech person, to his credit, said he had no clue.  Has anyone actually installed these and if so, is there a fitment issue (I think fitment is a real word) on the bag extensions?  Thanks for your help and wise counsel.

I like that combination of headers and mufflers, too. The Power Duals are made for the '09 touring bikes, so there should be no problem with fitment there. (Yes, fitment is the correct term, I believe.) However, I have been told that the Monster Ovals are too wide for the opening in the SERGs fender and saddlebag skirts. I don't know that that was based on an actual attempt at fitting the Monster Ovals on an SERG. Mine is not here yet -- won't be until Feb/March and Harley has not set the shipping date yet.

Sorry I can't give you advice based on real-world experience, but I thought I'd share what I have been told by my dealer.

Thanks!

I'm afraid the Monsters are just too large to fit on a SERG with the bag extensions.  You can use any shaped muffler on your bike as long as it is round.    :cherry:   Congrats on the new bike, too.

Everything I've seen points to Rinehart as the best aftermarket solution. I just wish they were slightly larger diameter to better fill the exhaust cutouts on the '09 SERG.

Hey guy's I am supposed to pick my silver and black SERG up next week, at least that's what the dealer keeps telling me. In reply to this post I am also planning on using the new Vance and Hines power dauls but was thinking I would just go with the head pipe and send the stock mufflers out to full sac and go with the 2" cores. This will for one enhance the performance and I really like the power chamber and it still retains the stock configuration by going under the bike, I also really like the look of the stock mufflers. I'll let you know how I make out and yes I promise pictures...JGD "What do you think will it work"?

The V&H setup is very heavy compared to stock, plus the cross over looks funny. and we will laugh ;D jkg
if not doing the drill cat & fullsac thing, wait till fullsac has the new head pipes. JMO

Hookers fit very well.  They dont fill in the space but look good and sound great.

Hello from Kansas City-
I just spoke to my dealer today trying to get the V&H cross-over headers which I like the looks of very much, and the dealer said that they aren't available yet. If you are able to get some, I'd be interested to know.

I seen a 09 SERG last week with a set of Bassani 4" slash cuts that filled the hole nicely, I did not get to hear them. They did look good with the slash up.  Doc

I too am looking into the complete Fullsac mod.  I spoke with Steve regarding the Fullsac Headpipe and he hope they will be out in 4 weeks maybe more maybe less.  He just posted the power numbers today...

Muffler Volume is an advantage and will enhance low and mid range power. 4" of any manufacturer will work well. Core size will affect power placement as well. The bigger the hole the higher the range of usable power with some usual low end losses. packing material type and application may affect tone to a degree. There is much talk of power advantages of specific brands. This may have some merit but really has more effect on your visual happiness. Fulsac will do the Job nicely. HD did a great job on the design of the stock mufflers for sure. :2vrolijk_21:
