Monster Oval
« on: January 14, 2009, 08:28:47 AM »

On my 2009 SEUC if I install monster oval's and do the race tuner is there anything I have to do to the air cleaner? One dealer is telling me I need the following parts.

SE stage 1 A/C kit 50MM
Chrome backplate kit FLH
CVR A/C chrome W/Out

I put Monster Ovals on my 08 SERK as well as SE high flow AC and super SERT. It took my dealer 3 attempts to find a good download tune but it works great. Dont know about the other bits you listed.

You don't have to change the Air Cleaner.  But if you want the full benefit of the freer flowing exhaust, I would recommend opening up the intake with a less restrictive air cleaner also, then re-tune the ECM to get your AFR down to let that big 110 run a little cooler.   Just my $ 0.02

I'm so new at this and there is so much I don't know. Here is what my dealer is telling me. If I install the monster ovals and the race tuner from Harley he needs to tune the bike. Could take up to 5 hours. He also said the download might be fine without doing anything else. The problem is the dealer is 4 hours from my house. He is the one that gave me the best deal. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

There are numerous members of this forum with more knowledge and expeieince than me, but here's my $0.02. This sounds like a decent dealer. What I believe he is telling you is that he will install your parts, download a map to the SERT, then put the bike on the dyno to check the results. If the download is a good match and the dyno numbers look reasonable, then your done. If the download is not a good match and he has to do some tuning with multiple dyno checks, then you are looking at a half day or more.

I would ask him if that is the plan. If the half day or more requires seat-of-the-pants tuning rather than a dyno, I'd check elsewhere. If possible, I'd also ask around to see how much experience this dealer has with dyno tuning and satisfied people are with the tuning results.

For the expense of the SERT and pipes, I'd install the larger air cleaner and opt for the tuning. This takes the guess work out of everything and you will be much better satisfied with the result.

Hope it works out well for you

I have decided to let the dealer install the monster ovals and dyno the bike. He gave me a great deal.
The bike is 3 hours from my house and the dealer is paying me $50 for gas and putting me up in a hotel so I can bring back the new bike the next day. Check out the dealer at www.hdstore.com.  They are located in Baltimore. After I had a bike on order from another dealer I was told to call these people. Much nicer folks and really know what they are doing. I'll post pictures next saturday when she gets home. I can't believe they had a 2009 SEUC blue & silver in stock.

They don't have to be faster because people would much rather you go slow so they can admire the beautiful color.........
