Don't automatically assume right now that Ares V is going to make it service.  New NASA administrator isn't a "space guy" and is retired military.  Obama transition team has been talking for some time about bring NASA and DoD together in ways they haven't for a long long time.  The Pentagon already has a several times larger space budget than NASA does.

To speed the moon program up there is discussion of using rockets already used by DoD rather than moving ahead with Ares V.  One of those "just have to wait and see" things.  I personally hate the idea of being dependent on the Russians and launches from Baikonur for our access to space for any period of time after the shuttle fleet is mothballed.  And there's no way we can let the Chinese get competitive in a lunar program.  There closer now to being competitive than anyone would have expected ten years ago.  So if NASA leaning on DoD a bit moves missions faster I'm all for it.

I know exactly what you mean! It was 8 years of Clinton that gave the Chinese the Tech that they are now threatening us with, and I'm sure the next administration will betray this country also. They are already saying he wants to give an executive order in his first week to close Guantánamo Bay Detention Camp. If that's the first week, wait for the second week etc.. I guess all you can do is not sit and wait to see what happens but get up, get ready, and be ready for what may come.
